TUESDAY 9/7 - SUNDAY 9/12
UPDATE FROM THE DUDE!

As many of you know, I've been making the transition from comics to the field of, uh, (musical flourish, please), "FINE ART ".  If you saw my studio, you'd observe 3 separate stations where I do my work.  One is the drawing board that I do my commissions, watercolors, and sketchbooks studies on.  Another area is set up for pastels and charcoal.  The other is the easel where I do most of my oil painting.  Since most of my fine art pieces are based on the female figure, you'd see multiple studies of finished and half finished oil, charcoal, and pastel pieces lined up against the wall.  This is where I've spending most of my time.

When I returned from the San Diego con in July, I've was all excited about finishing the Supergirl "demo painting" I did on Thursday at the show.  My plan was, I was gonna send out a notice to local models to come in and help me finish up this half-completed painting. Naturally, I was pretty excited about this idea.

Out of the 10 or so responses I received from local models, I finally found the perfect girl to come in and bring this picture to life.  According to the photo's she sent, she was:  5'10, 135 lbs., with long curly blonde hair, and a body to die for.  "Kelly" looked like she walked right out of a panel from a Supergirl comic.  She was that good.

After agreeing on a date, discussing costume options and fees with her, and sending her directions to my home, we were all set.  Smooth as can be, right? Only one problem:

She never showed up.  She didn't even call to tell me she wasn't showing up.

Question:  Are all models this retarded?
After all that work to tell me she wanted the job, I never heard from her again.

I'd like to report that "Kelly" is the exception to this rule of the "no-show", but that would hardly be accurate.  Not even remotely.  The fact is that 90% of every model that I've ever solicited work from has proven unreliable.  It's almost as though there might be something in the air that has reduced everyone to "empty head" status.

I've heard all the theories that might apply to explaining this phenomenon.  But none of them really answer the question to my satisfaction.

So, I continue to paint away at my half-finished paintings, trying to figure out how to make them look good, in spite of not having a real model to look at.  And if by some remote chance, anyone knows any good RELIABLE models in the greater AZ. area, please, submit your candidates to:

NOTE FROM GINO

For anyone who's placed an order in the store or contacted us via email you've probably met my assistant Lise.  Lise has been with us for several years and we are very sad to see her go.  My mom is going to come on board to help out with what she can and Lise will still put in a few hours a week if she is able.

I am in the process of putting together a magazine that we hope to put out every other month.  It will be in full color and will be a limited run of approximately 500-1,000.  Will be available next month so watch Facebook and this newsletter for more information!

We are also still planning a 2011 Calendar

Steve has recently turned down recent comics jobs from Dark Horse, DC, and even an album cover job from some jazz band in Australia.  Steve claims he instinctively knows what jobs are right for him, and what aren't.  Maybe he thinks it's part of a master plan only the Dude can understand. Someday he can explain it to the rest of us.  In the meantime, he stays up in his studio working on his female figure gallery work.

Keepin' the faith,

Jaynelle Rude
