And now, a word from the
Dude...
Is it any wonder the San Diego Comic Con is one of the
highlights of my year? There's certainly no wondering on my part. The reason
is you guys are the best!
Whether it's friends from previous years coming by to say
Hi and maybe admire what's new on the table, or newcomers to the fold who have
somehow heard the word, my heart and brain swell with admiration for our
exchanges of mutual appreciation. It tells me that
Nexus is a big deal to your lives, and what Mike,
Gary, Glenn, Todd, Gino Jaynelli and her assistant Lisa all do to keep it
going...is important.
Many fantastic things happened at this 2008 show. Meeting
with Mike Richardson from Dark Horse to talk about some future possibilities; a
discussion with a DC editor about a fantastic idea he thought up--one of the
best I've ever heard; the portrait panel demonstration I gave on Friday
with former Nexus editor Anina Bennett (Gino will post the painting so you can
see how I fared!), and an after hours invitation from book publisher David
Spurlock to hang out with Neal Adams and Jim Steranko and the other fine people
at the table. ( I told Mr. Adams and Steranko they needed to put out alot more
comic book work.)
But honestly, as great as those things were, the true
essence of these shows is never lost on me--it's about you fans and readers, who
always keep it alive and kicking.
So what's next now that I'm back from the show and
back to reality??
Nexus #101 is getting it's final "turtle wax" polish, and
then we're ready to finish up the mini-series with #102.
Then, onto The
Moth.
