Cedar Village E-News
July 27, 2012

Greetings!

We have lots of great events coming up soon-hope that many of them are on your calendar!  On Thursday, August 2 we will host some special dedication events for Phase I of our rehab expansion project.  Early that morning we will have a special celebration for our employees, recognizing the 228 of them who contributed to the Growth for Tomorrow campaign.  Our employee campaign raised just over $50,000 towards this project.  I think it sends a very strong message-that our staff are committed to Cedar Village and its future and willing to invest in our growth.  We'll be unveiling a special plaque to recognize these donors and sharing a festive breakfast!  Later that day we will host a reception for the major donors to the capital campaign and they will have a chance to see their individual plaques.  It will be a great day.  We are very close to meeting our goal for Phase II of this campaign and if you have not had the opportunity to participate, we'd love to tell you more about it.  Feel free to email or call me or get in touch with Sally Korkin,  skorkin@cedarvillage.org, for more details!

Right on the heels of that event is our upcoming Golf Classic.  It is our 13th year of hosting a golf tournament and it is a great day and a major fund/friendraiser for Cedar Village.  We'll be at the Heritage Club, a beautiful location, and there are still spots available for morning and afternoon golfers.  You can also come out and join us for an amazing dinner if you would like and participate in the raffle and/or silent auction.  For more information, check it out at  www.cedarvillage.org.

September's upcoming highlight is our very first Walk of Ages.  We've created a new event, intended to be intergenerational, that will unite families, friends, residents and staff in a walk around Cedar Village.  We'll have music, treats and cheering all along the route.   Of course, not all of our Cedar Village residents walk unassisted so we will have folks with walkers and in wheelchairs, accompanied by family or by staff.  There are lots of "walk events" out there, we wanted one that would celebrate older adults, include and engage our residents and families and demonstrate, once again, that "age is just a number."  The Walk of Ages will be held on Sunday, September 9 which, fittingly, is also Grandparent's Day.  Watch for sponsor and registration materials-we'd love to have you join us!

Our plans for the upcoming Interfaith Mission continue and our departure date of October 24 is getting closer and closer.  In the next few weeks we will be working on our own "replica" of the Western Wall in Jerusalem.  It will be a resident-created art installation that is designed specifically for folks to put notes or prayers in the "Wall."  We will collect these notes and prayers and take them with us to Jerusalem where we will place them in the actual wall. We have done this for our previous two Missions, collecting notes from residents, staff and visitors and we have found it to be a powerful experience, both for those who write the notes and for those who have the honor of placing them.  Stay tuned for details on that one!

All the best,
