Greetings!
Memorial Day and Shavuot coincided this year and we managed to make the best of both! Our holiday celebration was highlighted by a study session and ice cream social and there were several opportunities to attend services and share some delicious blintzes! For Memorial Day, we had some discussion groups and shared reminiscences, giving folks an opportunity to talk about a different time in their lives and the significant memories of that era. Did you know that we are fast approaching the first anniversary of new Rehab Center? Hard to imagine but in July we will celebrate one year of the new Rehab Center's operation and we'll be announcing dedications of some of the rooms and installing plaques to thank our generous donors. We are moving ahead with our Growth for Tomorrow capital campaign and are anxious for it to be completed! Once that happens, we will finalize plans for the aquatic therapy center that constitutes phase II of this project. Adding aquatic therapy will truly move our rehab services to another level as well as provide an opportunity for therapeutic exercise for Cedar Village residents. We hope to have that facility open within the next 18 months! Here's something you may not know about our rehabilitation program-we not only do the full range of physical, occupational and speech therapies in the most state-of-the-art rehab center in the area, we also do lots of innovative therapy services as well. One of them is using horticulture as a therapy tool. Having a garden space adjacent to the rehab center allows us to take advantage of the outdoors and this is the perfect time of year to plant and watch things grow! We have been having fun with our vegetable gardening and it involves walking, bending and balance skills as well as the fine motor skills when we plant, weed and harvest. Our therapy staff does a great job helping folks recover and keeping them motivated and engaged as well. If you have not seen our new Rehabilitation Center, come out and tour, we would love to show it off! All the best, Carol Silver Elliott CEO/President

We have planted herbs: basil, cilantro, chives, oregano; also have tomato plants in box planters and beans, cucumber and bell peppers along the fence. We are keeping fresh water in the bird bath, Monika brought in a bird feeder to hang from the tree, and there is a mourning dove nesting in the shrub right by the therapy window that we have been watching!
It's all VERY THERAPEUTIC!!
