Greetings!
We began this week with a lot of activity and ended it the same way! On Sunday afternoon, if you wandered into the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center you might have thought you were in Las Vegas! Well, okay, maybe not a full scale casino but close! The Friends of Cedar Village hosted their annual Monte Carlo event and residents and family members had the opportunity to try their luck at many different "gambling" tables including roulette, poker and more! It was, as always, a wonderful event and a good time was had by all. On Wednesday, we celebrated our volunteers in honor of Volunteer Recognition Week. We had a great crowd, a delicious lunch and a fabulous program. John Russell, conductor of the Cincinnati Pops, gave a great presentation on both the arts and the arts in Cincinnati. He saluted, as did we, our wonderful corps of volunteers. Cedar Village is blessed to have an active and devoted volunteer program and we have hundreds of people who give of their time and energy to benefit our residents, staff and the community. We can't say "thank you" enough to recognize all that these individuals do and how much they bring to Cedar Village. They are truly a treasure! Thursday's highlight was of a much more somber nature as we held our Yom Hazikaron ceremony with residents, staff and visitors. Close to 100 people filled the Cohen Center (it was a little too damp and cool to be outside as we normally are) and listened to Rabbi Walter conduct a moving program, highlighted by the presence of an Israeli soldier and the music of Dan Landau. After the indoor ceremony, a group ventured out to the Jerusalem Rock on the campus for the laying of a memorial wreath in honor of all of the fallen soldiers. In the evening on Thursday, we participated in the Yom Hazikaron/Yom Ha'atzmaut program at the Mayerson JCC. We took a number of residents to the program and we also provided one of the food booths. We served our homemade Cedar Village smoked salmon (yum!) along with bagels, cream cheese, two delicious salads and chocolate chip cookies. It was a fun evening and there were a lot of community folks in attendance-and enjoying our delicious food! On Friday, we celebrated Yom Ha'atzmaut together with a special Kabbalat Shabbat and wonderful Israeli music, again with the assistance of the very talented Dan Landau. It was a great way to celebrate Israel's Independence Day and to begin Shabbat and the weekend in a great way!
All the best, Carol Silver Elliott CEO/President
