Greetings!
We've had another action packed week! One of our favorite new programs is ceramics. Beth Goldstein, a local artist who has some of her work on display at Cedar Village, has been kind enough to come in and create a ceramics class with residents. Folks are creating beautiful things and having a great time doing it! Speaking of art, OMA (Opening Minds through Art) continues on a regular weekly schedule. OMA's focus is on individuals with dementia and the program uses creative expression as a way to engage residents, even with advanced dementia, and allow them to express themselves and make choices. Believe it or not, we are almost at the end of another OMA semester and will have another exhibit on display soon. On Tuesday, we served as a polling place for our area. We so appreciate the opportunity to do this and are glad to work with the Board of Elections to make it happen. Not only are we happy to host voting for our community, it makes it so easy for our residents to be able to exercise their right to vote. They are an active and interested group of citizens and having elections here makes it easy for them to have the voice they deserve. Yesterday was a day of "retail therapy" for some of our residents! We took an expedition to the Monroe Outlet Mall where a busload of our folks had lunch and shopped to their heart's content. We take lots of other shopping trips but this was the first one to the Outlet Mall and I am sure it won't be the last! Today, of course, is Veteran's Day. In special programming this morning, we invited residents to bring their military memorabilia and share their stories with one another. That was a great opportunity for reminiscing. Then we had a visit from the Tipkemper Trio who performed a concert of patriotic songs. They included the anthems for each branch of the military and our veterans from those branches showed great pride in hearing their special song. We salute all of our veterans today, both those that live at Cedar Village and those in the community. We are grateful for your courage and your service. Did you know that Cedar Village Hospice has now been fully certified and licensed as a community hospice for 7 months? Some of us had the privilege of attending that National Institute for Jewish Hospice re-certification program this week and were delighted to be with our colleagues across the country who provide this vital service. Cedar Village Hospice offers the full range of caring and compassionate end-of-life services for those at Cedar Village and in the entire community. Call us at 513-754-3100 for more information. We are in countdown mode for Battle of the Bands! Be with us Sunday, December 4 at the 20th Century Theatre in Oakley. It will be a night of music, fun, food and friends. You won't want to miss it!!
All the best, Carol Silver Elliott CEO/President Cedar Village
