Greetings!
What a busy week this one has been! We began with a very exciting event on Monday afternoon. Retired Israeli Ambassador Yoram Ettinger spoke to our residents and staff about "US-Israeli Relations" and his fascinating address sparked a lot of questions from our residents. It was a wonderful opportunity and we are very grateful to JCRC for including us in Mr. Ettinger's visit to the Cincinnati community! On Tuesday and Wednesday, our Chesed Corps, with the help of many other residents, baked chocolate chip cookies to be packaged and sent to our troops. We had the help of Operation Thank You troops with the shipping and we mixed, shaped, baked and then vacuum sealed the cookies before packing them tightly in boxes. The Oak View and Fountain View residents took part on Tuesday and then on Wednesday we baked in Health Care. What was really exciting about our Wednesday baking was the chance to use our new "Bubbie's Kitchen" for the very first time! We have relocated the Cedar Center room and Bubbie's Kitchen to the second floor, at the end of the Redbud wing, as part of the rehab renovation project. The new kitchen is beautiful, designed for accessible resident use and flows perfectly into the new CC room. What a pleasure it was to use it and how great it will be for many programs and functions. Thursday's highlight was the final match in the Wii bowling tournament we've been participating in with our friends from Otterbein Lebanon and Sycamore Glen from Dayton. We traveled to Sycamore Glen and they were gracious hosts for this event. The Kosher Kingpins did well but, sadly, took third place by two pins! The overall tournament winner was the Otterbein team but a good time was had by all and some great new friendships were forged. We are planning a bowling banquet and hope to have another tournament on the calendar early next year. Battle of the Bands is coming! In fact, it will be exactly one month from today. If you missed the last one, make sure you plan to be with us this year! We will gather at the 20th Century Theatre in Oakley to hear three great bands, munch on some delicious treats and have a great time. Sponsorship opportunities are still available as are, of course, individual tickets. We hope that you will be with us! Here's another date to note-on Tuesday, November 15, we will be participating in National Memory Screening Day. This is a community event, free of charge, in which folks can come in, meet with members of our professional staff and do some assessments to determine if they are having memory issues that need to be further addressed. We will have three time slots available, 9-10:30 a.m., noon-1:30 p.m., and 3-4:30 p.m. Appointments are suggested but not required. You can make an appointment by calling Kim Bauer at 754-3100 or emailing her at kbauer@cedarvillage.org. Walk-ins are welcome, just come to Cedar Village on that day and check in at the Reception Desk.
All the best, Carol Silver Elliott CEO/President Cedar Village
