Greetings!
If you missed our Wii bowling event at Cedar Village . . . well, you missed something really special! Our resident team of Wii bowlers, the Kosher Kingpins, is in a league with Otterbein Lebanon and Sycamore Glen from Dayton. This week was our turn to host and we pulled out all the stops. We decorated the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center and we had a "feast" of snacks including nachos, hot pretzels and pizza. Our very own chef Tracey made cookies that were shaped and decorated as bowling pins and bowling balls. And each bowling ball cookie said "Kosher Kingpins" on it. A big crowd of residents and staff assembled to cheer on the team and there were pom poms and cheers all around. We even had a song for our event, penned by the one and only Sally Korkin. It was a great afternoon, filled with wonderful moments. And to our surprise, when the scores were totaled (it was a close match), we won!! You could probably hear us cheering all over Cincinnati! Next week we travel to Dayton where we will be hosted by Sycamore Glen on their campus. We plan to finish the season with a "bowling banquet" hosted here at Cedar Village.
We are very excited about a special event next week. Yoram Ettinger will be here in Cincinnati for a JCRC briefing and JCRC was kind enough to make him available to present a program at Cedar Village on Monday afternoon. Mr. Ettinger is a retired Israeli ambassador and the Executive Director of Second Thought: A US-Israel Initiative. He is an insider on U.S.-Israel relations, the politics of the Middle East, and overseas investment in Israel's high tech industries. His articles, which are published in Israel and the U.S., are posted at The Ettinger Report (www.TheEttingerReport.com). Mr. Ettinger is a consultant to members of Israel's Cabinet and Knesset, and regularly briefs U.S. legislators and their staff on Israel's contribution to vital U.S. interests. He has served as Minister for Congressional Affairs at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, Israeli Consul General in Houston, Texas, and Director of the Israeli Government Press Office.
Mr. Ettinger will speak to our residents at 3 p.m. in the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center. His topic is "US-Israel Relations: A Bottom-Up, Mutually-Beneficial Two Way Street!" The program is free and open to all so please join us if you can!
Also on the docket for next week, letters will be going out about our annual Resident and Family Satisfaction survey. These surveys are very important to us, helping us to continually improve our work at Cedar Village. If you are one of those folks who receives a survey, please take the time to fill it out and give us your feedback. All results are compiled by an independent research firm and all information is kept strictly confidential.
If you are in need of some meaningful volunteer work, consider becoming a Cedar Village Hospice volunteer. You can make a difference to individuals and families through direct service, sitting at a bedside, visiting with or reading to a hospice patient or indirect service, like helping with flower arranging or even clerical tasks. If you are interested, there is a special orientation program specifically for hospice. Call Jessica Carlson at 754-3100 or email
