Greetings!
We're in week two of the opening of the new Cedar Village Rehabilitation Center and things are working beautifully. Our patients, visitors, staff and community are enjoying the spacious, bright and beautiful space equipped with the very latest for diagnosis and treatment. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are all offered here-all by our own staff or therapists. Lots of rehab facilities use outside contracted services for therapy staffing and they certainly do a fine job. But we believe that having our own staff makes a difference in terms of commitment, continuity and integration with the rest of the care team. We see that in the fact that we often have patients who are "repeaters." They had their first knee or hip replaced and came here for therapy. When they are set to do the second joint, or an illness or injury has made inpatient rehabilitation a necessity, they invariably request Cedar Village. They know the staff, they trust them and they know what we know-that the outcome will be good, that we will help them work to achieve an optimal quality of life.
Did you know that our Rehabilitation Center also boasts a full kitchen and an apartment-type space, complete with washer and dryer, bedroom and full bath? The kitchen, also known as Sally's Place, and the apartment space are an important element for therapy use. They are designed to help patients practice life skills. That means that you know what you will be facing when you go home-and you are prepared for it. Say you have had a hip replacement and are recovering but aren't bending fully or are using an assistive device to walk. How will you manage to get a pan that is in a cupboard under the counter? What obstacles do you face when you get out of bed or climb over the tub wall into the shower? At Cedar Village, you can now find that out before you go home so that you can be better prepared and make an easier, healthier transition back to your home.
We're also very excited about the continued growth of Cedar Village Hospice . We've hired a Hospice Manager, Linda Rumpler, RN, who comes to us with years of hospice and management experience. Linda will work with our team of physicians, nurses, aides, chaplain and volunteers to ensure that we are making our community aware of, and building, this important service. Cedar Village Hospice is a community hospice. We can care for anyone at Cedar Village or in the Greater Cincinnati community, bringing our Cedar Village quality to the bedside for the patient and their family. If you or a loved one needs hospice care, or you're not sure and want more information, call us at 513-754-3100. We're here to help-
On a lighter note, we hope that you're saving the date for the Cedar Village Golf Classic on August 22 . It is always a fabulous event so please be sure and join us. It's at Weatherington Golf Club again this year and it is a gorgeous setting-don't miss it. And here is a new date to note-on August 11, we will hold our very first outdoor concert at Cedar Village. The Buffalo Ridge Jazz Band, favorites of ours, will be here to entertain us with their lively blend of music and fun. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and be here for the 7 p.m. start. It's free and open to the community so do plan to be here! If it rains, we'll head inside the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center but not to worry, we've requested a perfect evening! All the best, Carol Silver Elliott CEO/President, Cedar Village carol@cedarvillage.org
