Harkavy Holiday weekend is upon us! Hurrah! This is one of our favorite weekends, with events that offer something for everyone. On Friday, we had our annual wheelchair and walker decorating contest. You might think this sounds like just good old-fashioned fun - and it is - but it is also fiercely competitive! We have lots of folks whose creative juices start flowing and they put a lot of effort into their decorating and truly want to win! What are the hotly contested prizes? Well, they are great ones - gift certificates to the Cedar Village Gift Shop, which happens to be one of the loveliest gift shops you can find anywhere.
Beyond those red, white and blue walkers and wheelchairs, we have lots more in store. On Sunday afternoon, our wonderful music therapist, Jude Jones, will join our friends Steve and Irina for a wonderful concert. Then on Monday we have a couple of special programs - the first is our annual antique car show which will be held in the morning. We have nine different cars that are scheduled to be here and our residents just love coming out to see the vintage vehicles. Most of the car owners, who bring them out, also give rides around the parking lot and that is a huge treat for everyone. If you have an antique car and would like to join us, we'd love to have you. The event starts at 10:30 a.m.
On Monday afternoon, at 2 p.m., in the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center, we'll have a great concert featuring the Buffalo Ridge Jazz Band followed by another annual treat, Graeters ice cream. Hope that you can join us for any and all of these events.
We're also getting very excited about the opening of the new Cedar Village Rehabilitation Center. In fact, we start our "sneak preview" tours this coming week! On Wednesday, our residents will have the very first look at the new inpatient and outpatient therapy suites. On Thursday, we'll have some tours for staff (of course residents, families and visitors will also be allowed a peek!) and on Sunday, July 10 we will officially cut the ribbon and open the new Rehab Center. The work on Apple and Azalea, renovating rooms for inpatient rehab, continues to progress and the new dedicated elevator for admissions and rehab is also under construction so the entire project won't be complete until late fall. Nonetheless, we'll be open for business in the new therapy suite on July 11 and we are more than ready to celebrate! Hope we'll have a chance to show you around during one of those times.
We wish you and your family a safe and healthy holiday weekend!
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
