I had a very great privilege this week. I attended the Association of Jewish Aging Services annual conference in Dallas. AJAS, as it is commonly called, represents Jewish retirement communities, senior housing and nursing homes from both the United States and Canada. At the conference, there are some awards presented, each chosen by a committee of professionals from a host of nominations. This year, the Trustee of the Year award went to Andy Shott, a member of our Cedar Village Board and the past chair of that board. I was honored to present that award to Andy and to recognize his dedication, hard work and enthusiasm for Cedar Village. It is a well deserved honor and it was truly wonderful to share that moment with Andy.
Cedar Village was well represented at the conference. I had an opportunity to speak and to facilitate a panel and Sally Korkin, our Director of Development, also spoke. It was, as it always is, a great place to connect with, and learn from, our colleagues and we came back with a number of ideas for new projects and programs.
While we were away, there was still lots happening at Cedar Village. Our construction project continues to move along swiftly and the therapy areas and getting closer to completion. The updated dining rooms on Apple and Azalea are almost complete as are the new rooms that will be added to those unit. We're still on track for a late May opening for therapy and a September completion of the two units in the Health Care Center. We can't wait!
Even though Opening Day was a chilly one, we didn't miss it. We were all decked out in our team attire within Cedar Village and there were lots of folks watching the game. And, we had one of our residents, whose wish it was to attend the Reds parade and opening game, have that opportunity. Rabbi Yudin was a willing escort and the two men had a delightful time!
Don't forget to make your Seder reservation if you'd like to join us on April 18. We begin at 4 p.m. and we'll be a big crowd as we gather our Cedar Village family in the Cohen Center!
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
