Making groggers
Residents and volunteers enjoyed making groggers for Purim
March 18, 2011

Dear ,

Purim is just around the corner and we'd love to have you share the Megillah reading with our Cedar Village family.  We'll be gathering on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center.  Not only will we hear the Megillah, we will also have a concert and, of course, lots of hamantaschen!  And on Monday afternoon we will have our annual Purim shpiel by our very own "Not Ready for Any Time" Cedar Village players!  Our management staff are good sports and the residents love seeing them "perform" in the Purim play.

In keeping with our holiday celebration, we've had Purim trivia and treats.  Residents in the Oak View and Fountain View apartments baked hamantaschen last Sunday in Joyce's Kitchen and the same treat was prepared in Bubbe's Kitchen on Tuesday morning with the Health Care residents.  It is always so much fun to hear the memories and stories.  We all talk about our favorite filling flavors and dough recipes, sharing smiles and laughter with the residents.  Our next holiday cooking project will be Caramel Matzo Brittle for Passover.  You may want to join us for that delicious event!

On Thursday afternoon, we had a great time participating in the "World's Largest Concert."  Elementary schools from around the country were video linked together and children from around the country sang eight different songs all at the same time.  We were invited to join Kings Mill Elementary School and some of our apartment residents were delighted to take part.  Two of our special volunteers, Jessie Bauer, daughter of Kim Bauer, our Director of Social Work and Christina Isabell, granddaughter of nurse Kaye Herda, are 4th graders at the school. They welcomed our group, presented them with lovely wrist corsages and made sure they were seated in the special area reserved just for them.  We sang, clapped, smiled and absorbed the wonderful energy and enthusiasm.  At the end of the concert, the children filed past our residents and thanked them for joining the program.  A great time was had by all!

All the best,
