Dear ,
Highlights of our week at Cedar Village have included another wonderful concert by Joe and Friends, a talented group of young people from CCM. This has been an ongoing feature for several years and the residents love it. "The Friends" membership changes as the students change and we have had a number of different leaders, usually someone who has been a part of the group previously. These enthusiastic performers share their talents with us and develop wonderful rapport with the residents.
We're also excited that we began a massage therapy program this week. Through the generosity of the Harkavy and Berg funds, we now have a geriatric massage therapist coming in for regular visits to residents. Geriatric massage is a specialty as our elders have issues with delicate skin and other medical conditions that require extra care. For our first day of massage therapy, the response was very positive. Massage can be a useful tool in alleviating pain, providing comfort and even easing emotional distress.
On March 16 Cedar Village will celebrate its 14th birthday and, as luck would have it, that is the same day that Global Giving has declared a special bonus fundraising day. Global Giving, you may recall, is an international, online marketplace for fundraising and we have been proud to be a part of it for two years. Watch for an email to tell you how you can make a "birthday gift" to Cedar Village next week and have it doubled through this special program!
You need to know that we have a competitive group of folks living here! Our Wii bowling is heating up and the team is getting ready for competition. And our chair volleyball players are improving their skills all the time. I sat in for a few minutes in a game earlier this week and, let me tell you, we have some serious participants in the group! Maybe we'll be on the road competing there as well-
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
