We have had a very busy week at Cedar Village! We've taken residents to the Jewish American Film Festival and we look forward to hosting a film here next week. What a great event for our community and we are so delighted to be a part of it. We also had a special movie event here this week just for residents. We had "lunch and a movie" in the CRCC and a crowd of almost 80 residents thoroughly enjoyed it. We'd not done a lunch time film event before but we sure will do it again!
In a very lovely Cedar Village moment this week, one of our residents received a gift made possible by a community special purpose foundation. The grant provided a computer and printer for one of the gentlemen who lives in our Health Care Center. He's been using the library computer and we all knew how much he loved the time he spent online. When a donor offered us the opportunity for a gift of technology, we had a "light bulb moment" about how to use it. Yesterday the computer arrived and was installed. We provided distractions until the "ta da" moment and it was a sight to behold. As we walked upstairs with the resident, who had no idea what was happening, we felt like the Pied Piper. The crowd of staff built and built and when he walked in the room, saw the gift and heard the explanation, all he could say was "Wow!" What a privilege for all of us to witness and share.
Culinary Corners continued this week, both on Health Care and in the Garden Dining room. Residents and tenants who participated enjoyed some "treats" and new tastes to try. They shared ideas and provided feedback to Dining staff. These sessions are all focused on "what would you like to see" and the interaction has been great.
We're also continuing to develop our Wii bowling team. We're actively soliciting team names so feel free to send us a suggestion if your creative juices are flowing. They're practicing several times a week and look forward to hitting the competition circuit!
On the project front, our construction continues to move along nicely. We are all anxious for it to be completed and our brand new rehabilitation center to be in operation. Of course, it is a year away but we are already seeing signs of progress. Our hospice certification effort is also in full swing and we are all working hard to ensure that we are in perfect order when our survey date arrives.
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
