Dear ,
It's been a week of special events-from Tu B'Shevat to Martin Luther King Day. On Thursday, we had a wonderful Tu B'Shevat seder led by Rabbi Walter. Residents and staff gathered to enjoy this tradition, to share unusual fruits and to partake in this tradition. For some, this is a new experience as they associate seder only with Passover. So, we had learning on many different levels, celebration and, of course, lunch!
For Martin Luther King day, we had a full house in the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center. Readings, music and video all combined to make this a tribute to Dr. King's accomplishments and his life cut short. It also sparked a number of reminiscences of that era and of the events surrounding Dr. King's assassination.
Eight Over Eighty is coming soon! We'll be honoring this year's Eight over Eighty award winners on May 19. If you know someone over the age of 80 who has made significant volunteer contributions for the betterment of our community, please fill out a nomination form and send it in! We're looking for the "unsung heroes" so, if you know of someone, please let us know. And save the date of May 19-Eight Over Eighty is always a wonderful evening!
And speaking of coming soon-watch for the Cedar Village Wii bowling team that is about to debut! We know that other communities like ours have bowling teams for the Wii and that they even travel around for competitions. Marcia Westcott, our Director of Resident Programming, decided "Why not us?" and she has recruited a lively team. We'll keep you posted on their progress!
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
