Dear ,
We began the week with sunshine and doing musical programs in the Sensory Garden. Today, however, we're starting to feel as if fall is upon us! Still, the bright sun is encouraging folks to walk outside and enjoy the change of season.
Today is a very exciting day for Cedar Village in several different ways. We have a very special guest with us. Dr. Richard Taylor was diagnosed with dementia at age 58. Since his diagnosis, he has made it his mission to share his perspectives, writing and speaking about living with this disease. He has written a fascinating book, Alzheimer's From the Inside Out, and has a powerful message to share with caregivers, families and the community. He was kind enough to do three separate presentations for staff and families and he has really broadened the awareness and knowledge of everyone in his audience. If you're interested in learning more about Dr. Taylor, check out his website at www.richardtaylorphd.com.
We are also celebrating both the human spirit and the talents of our staff today. Marvin James became a resident at Cedar Village two years ago. No one, including Marvin, ever thought he'd go home again. No one thought he would walk again. But today, Marvin is going home. He's worked very hard, he's challenged himself and our staff has supported him, encouraged him and helped him develop the skills he needed to reclaim his life at home. We're giving Marvin a big send-off, complete with a surprise party and a ride home in a stretch limo, to make this day even more memorable. Marvin's story was featured on Channel 9 yesterday so if you missed it, here's a link you can use http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/health/immobility%2C-walking-over-the-odds.
This Sunday afternoon, at 1 p.m., we will be dedicating this year's new bricks in the Friends of Cedar Village Chai Court brick garden. We're hoping for a beautiful day and lots of folks with us to share in this special event. Feel free to come out and join us!
All the best,

Carol Silver Elliott
