This evening
we will begin our Yom Kippur observance here at Cedar Village. While health
reasons prevent many of our residents from fasting, the holiday is still a time
of solemn reflection and powerful memories. It is a privilege for us to share
this day with our residents and to join as a community, and a family, in
worshiping together. If your Yom Kippur plans allow, you are certainly
welcome to join us at Cedar Village for some, or all, of the holiday. And
with Yom Kippur upon us, Sukkoth is soon to follow. Our two sukkahs are
already in place, as of yesterday, and we look forward to the rest of the fall
holidays!
This has
been a good week for outdoor activities. The weather has finally broken and residents
have enjoyed some different kinds of events. On Tuesday, a group of
residents went to Fountain Square for a museum event. The event was
billed as displays by all of the area museums-which did not exactly turn
out to be the case-but, nonetheless, it was a super day. We'd
taken boxed lunches so our group was able to sit outside, enjoy lunch and the
gorgeous day and do some serious people watching! They had a great
time. On Thursday, we took a group to the alpaca farm and that was a huge
hit as well.
One upcoming
event that you may not be aware of is our annual Friends of Cedar Village Monte
Carlo Day. The Monte Carlo event is great fun for both residents and
visitors. We have all kinds of different "gambling"
opportunities from slot machines to a roulette wheel to poker and more.
Of course, there is no real gambling going on, it is all in good fun. The
Friends could use some volunteer assistance that day, no special skills
required just a desire to have some fun with the residents. Monte Carlo
will take place on October 10 (that's 10/10/10!) from 1:30-4 p.m.
If you can help for some or all of that time, please contact Leigh Faulk, president
of the Friends of Cedar Village, at lfaulk@cinci.rr.com.
May you have
an easy fast and may this year be one of blessings and peace for you and your
family.
