Cedar Village E-News

July 2, 2010

Dear ,

You might think that the weekend that's approaching is the 4th of July but here at Cedar Village we know it as the Harkavy Holiday weekend.  Our residents look forward to this fun-filled weekend all year and we'd love to have you join us for any and all of the events!  On Sunday, we will have a concert featuring Marc Rasmussen at 2 p.m. in the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center and we'll follow that with an old fashioned barbecue dinner.  On Monday, we have one of our very favorite things-our antique car show.  We have quite a number of great old cars that will be here for folks to see and ride around the campus.  That starts at 2 p.m.  At the same time, we'll have great entertainment in the Cohen Center with the Buffalo Ridge Jazz Band.  It's going to be great!

Of course, we started the Harkavy Holiday weekend in advance. Friday's highlights included a lively round of FLAG bingo, which is always a hit.  And, we had our annual walker and wheelchair decorating contest.  Believe it or not, it is a pretty serious competition and the creativity is amazing.  Everything is red, white and blue and lots of fun.

This past Tuesday evening was also a very special event for all of us.  Ron Rosenbaum, executive chef at The Standard Club in Chicago was a special guest in our kitchens.  He created a spectacular menu including sweet and sour cabbage soup, salmon wellington and individual carrot cakes for dessert.  The feedback was wonderful and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their evening.

Don't forget to save the date for the Cedar Village Golf Classic on August 9th.  If you're a golfer, you're going to love playing at Wetherington.  If you'd like to volunteer, let Marcia Westcott (
mwestcott@cedarvillage.org) know and if you'd just like to come out for a great meal, make a reservation with Sally Korkin (skorkin@cedarvillage.org).  You don't want to miss it!

All the best,
