Cedar Village E-News

Dear ,

What could be better than a beautiful day and some Major League baseball*?  Well . . . to be able to take residents, courtesy of the Berg Fund and Chai Hopes, to watch them enjoy the great day, to see one resident's dream of collecting autographs come true, to hear one person say that it was the first professional baseball game he had ever attended--it just does not get much better than that!  We are so privileged at Cedar Village to be able to provide these opportunities for residents.  We are unique among retirement communities for the depth and breadth of programming we provide within our buildings and to be able to offer community events is just spectacular.  From the theatre to the opera, from ballet to concerts and even to the Reds--if someone wants to do something, we find a way to make it happen.  What a treat for all!

Next week we are having a very exciting special event.  On Tuesday evening, we will have a Murder Mystery dinner for our Oak View and Fountain View residents.  Some of our staff will be the performers, we have a special dinner planned and it is billed as an "elegant evening" so it should be a lot of fun!  It is all being sponsored by PNC Bank.  PNC is taking over the bank located in the Cedar Village lobby and sponsoring this dinner is one of their ways of getting acquainted with our residents.  They've also made themselves available during certain hours every week to help answer questions and transition their accounts if that's what they choose to do.

We're also looking ahead to some special training in July.  We're starting a program called CedarFit which will use volunteers to help teach simple fitness techniques to older adults, especially those who are home-bound.  We've got some special folks coming in to help us, we're putting an advisory committee together and we are very excited about it.  If you're interested, call Marcia Westcott at 754-3100 or email her at mwestcott@cedarvillage.org for more details!
All the best,

 * Below, please find a wonderful piece by Gwen O'Brien, Cedar Village Receptionist, as she shares her experience from this incredible day.

A Day to Remember!

The day was perfect---sunny---high 80's---blue sky and puffy white clouds.  A perfect day.

The new Reds t-shirts were on and sun block had been liberally applied.  Coolers were packed and we were off!  Nelson, Harry, Marvin, Bernie, John and Victor.  Nick, Jessi, Jessica, Rabbi Yudin, Mark, Janet, Richard and Gwen were heading downtown for some baseball!

Our seats were perfect.  We settled in, got situated, taking in the sights and sounds of Great American Ball Park!

Rabbi Yudin and John took a walk and got some autographs, which thrilled John to no end.

Nelson was presented a certificate for attending his first Cincinnati Reds game.  The Cincinnati Reds staff treated our residents to a gift bags which included a Cincinnati Reds fleece throw, team photos, magnets and other goodies.

We had peanuts and ice cream and cheered like crazy for the three home runs!!!  Our Reds have been in a slump lately but the Cedar Village crew brought them luck as we trounced the L.A. Dodgers, 7-1.

We all headed home, a little tired,  a little hot, but perfect.  A perfect day.

Thank you to the Berg Family Fund, Chai Hopes and John O'Brien of the Cincinnati Reds for making dreams come true.
