Cedar Village E-News

May 28, 2010

Dear ,

As May disappears, we managed to squeeze in one more celebration during Older Americans month.  We have had several special events for residents and Thursday was the day we celebrated with, and thanked, our staff.  We had our annual "spring into summer" party and this year's theme was luau!  We had a great day, with parties for all three shifts.  The Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center was filled with music, great decorations, delicious food and the sounds of folks enjoying themselves.  We are very blessed at Cedar Village to have a dedicated and caring staff who bring all they have to our residents-every day.  We welcome these opportunities to say "thank you" for
all that they do and for their commitment to the individuals whose lives are entrusted to our care.

Earlier in the week, we were delighted to have one of our most dedicated volunteers recognized at the Jewish Federation's annual meeting.  Rabbi Ruth Alpers is not only a member of our board of trustees and chair of the Rabbinic Advisory Council, she's also someone we can always count on, whatever we need. Whether it is serving hamburgers in the middle of the night (as she did from 1:00 - 3:00 a.m. today), helping with services or assisting a resident or family, she always makes herself available. And, of course, her ultimate volunteer role was being a part of our B'nai Mitzvah Mission, helping to plan, educate and prepare as well as conduct the B'nai Mitzvah ceremony.  Throughout the Mission, she was an enormously effective member of the team and we were thrilled to have her with us.  We had some other Cedar Village folks honored as volunteers at the same meeting.  While they were not Cedar Village's nominees this year, they are both valued members of our Cedar Village family.  Leigh Faulk, president of the Friends of Cedar Village, was honored for her work with Temple Shalom and Yosef Ottensoser, our mashgiach,  was honored by Congregation Zichron Eliezer.  Both received well deserved recognition and we give them our sincere congratulations.

We are going through some banking transition at Cedar Village, as Fifth Third is closing the office they have had in our lobby. Fortunately, PNC Bank will be stepping in to take their place and we hope to make the transition as seamless as possible for our residents.  PNC is waiting for some final legal approvals before they move into the bank space but they will have staff here on a regular schedule during the next couple of weeks, prior to the bank opening, to help with any questions or transitions that folks want to make.  They've also installed an ATM in our lobby so that is a nice option for residents, staff and visitors.  We'll keep you posted as this moves forward.

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend-

All the best,
