It was a busy week at Cedar Village with lots of events focusing on the holiday of Shavout. We even had an afternoon study session here on Thursday, punctuated by an ice cream social, that was well attended and much enjoyed!
On Tuesday, we had a lovely visit from Jane Murray Heimlich. Jane is the daughter of the founders of the Arthur Murray Dance Studios and she is married to the physician who created the Heimlich Maneuver. She's written a delightful memoir and was here to share some stories and answer questions. It was a lovely afternoon and she was gracious and funny-a pleasure for all.
We also had some volunteers from the Jewish Federation here to do a beading project with a number of our residents. We had a lot of fun making key chains and necklaces and both the volunteers and the residents were all smiles. Want some joy in your life? Come and volunteer at Cedar Village! Check out our
website for more information.
We've also finished a wonderful project on our Cherry unit. Our town square murals are now complete and they are spectacular. We began, as you may remember, with Fannie's General Store and a Pet Shop. We have now added the Friends (yes, as in the Friends of Cedar Village) Hardware and Appliance Store, a Millinery and Haberdashery and Ethel's Jewelry Shoppe. Each of these areas will also have tables filled with "merchandise" where the residents can shop. If you have hats of costume jewelry at home that you'd like to add to our collection, please bring it in, we would love to have it!
Behind the Garden Dining Room, another new project is taking shape. It's a little garden! We are growing tomatoes, herbs and some flowers which we will use for various activities. While we can't use the produce in our kitchens (state regulations), we can enjoy gardening with residents and they can enjoy the fruits (okay, the vegetables) of their labor!
