Cedar Village E-News

April 16, 2010

Dear ,

On Wednesday, in Atlanta, Cedar Village was awarded the national programming award from the Association of Jewish Aging Services (AJAS) for our B'nai Mitzvah Mission.  It was my pleasure to receive the award, along with Sally Korkin, but it is an award for everyone at Cedar Village.  As I said when I accepted the beautiful Israeli art that accompanies the award, this mission was not just about the people who took part.  It was about everyone at Cedar Village, staff and residents alike, who believed in it and shared the excitement.  It was about our board and community who supported it and helped make it possible. This unique accomplishment deserves national recognition and it was a privilege to accept it on behalf of the Cedar Village family.

If you were at Cedar Village on Thursday or Friday, you might have seen some familiar faces-our 8 over 80 award winners. All of them were here as part of preparing the presentation for that special evening. If you are not already on the reservation list, there is still a little time left. The event is May 2 at 6 p.m. at Adath Israel. Call Sally Korkin at 754-3100 or email skorkin@cedarvillage.org if you need an invitation!

Also on Thursday, we were delighted to host a luncheon for NCJW. NCJW is re-shaping itself for the future and a room full of interested people were there to hear the details and celebrate the history of NCJW in Cincinnati. Grants were given to several organizations, including Cedar Village, and we were very grateful. As well, beautiful needlepoint pictures which represent NCJW programs, and formerly graced the walls of the NCJW offices, were given to Cedar Village and will be proudly displayed in our Fountain View apartments. It was a delightful event and we are thrilled to be a part of it!

Next week is filled with special events. Sunday evening we will host the community Yom Hazikaron ceremony on our grounds at 6:30 p.m. We will be outdoors so come prepared for the weather! On Monday evening we will have a booth at the Yom Hazikaron event at the J. On Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. we will hold a family meeting in the Wilbur and Mary Jean Cohen Religious and Cultural Center to discuss new programs. And Thursday at noon is our annual volunteer luncheon. Hope you will be with us for some, or all, of these events.

All the best,
