Dear ,
Well, we all made it through another snowy week. The conversation around here has included a lot of "enough already, where is spring?" and I think we are all tired of looking out at gray skies and snow! To compensate, we've made sure that we had lots of activities taking place inside where it is warm and dry. On Tuesday, we had a "Zaftig Tuesday" event sponsored by the Friends of Cedar Village. Our afternoon was filled with games, prizes and even ice cream treats. It was great fun and, as always, one of the special ways the Friends enhance the lives of our residents. Wednesday included part of our salute to the Olympics. With the Olympic theme music playing in the background, we held the first-ever Cedar Village staff vs. residents chair volleyball event. Let me tell you, it was wonderful. We began with a semi-serious approach to rules and scoring and, by the end, we were a bit more relaxed! It was great to see everyone, players and spectators alike, engaged and laughing. The new semester of OMA (Opening Minds through Art) began last week and it continues for 12 more Friday mornings. We'd love to show you magic in the making sometime, if your travels ever take you to Cedar Village at the time of day and week. Let us know! On Monday, we will have some fun baking hamantaschen with the residents in our Health Care Center. We all love doing cooking activities with the residents and find that everyone is able to participate, share some memories and enjoy together. Last but certainly not least, please make sure that your calendars are marked for Sunday, May 2 at 6 p.m. at Adath Israel. That's the time and date of Eight over Eighty, an event that celebrates and recognizes the achievements of eight individuals, over the age of eighty, who have made, and continue to make, significant contributions to our community. Our honorees this year are: Wilbur Cohen; Florence Leiberman; Florence Zaret; Sue Ransohoff; Lou Nidich; Dave Jacobson; Dick Weiland; and Bob Kanter. It is going to be a great event and a wonderful way to honor these special folks. Watch for your invitation coming soon! All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
