Dear ,
Brrr! It has sure been a wintery week. I don't know about you, but many of us are ready for spring! The weather did cause some changes in programming this week, with folks being stranded out of town and others unable to make it here because of the inclement weather. Weather, however, did not prevent the "opening" of Fannie's General Store on our Cherry unit. A gift in memory of Fannie and Max Warren, provided by her family, this incredible mural now graces one wall and an activity area. Fannie was a long time resident of Cedar Village and she and her husband did, for many years, run a store. This representation provides both visual stimulation and a setting for activities. We are so delighted with this new space and very grateful for the generosity of her sons, Ray and Rubin Warren and their families. Another thing that made us feel warmer (at least inside!) today is the beginning of the new semester of OMA (Opening Minds through Art). We now have two sessions running simultaneously which means that we can involve many more residents in this incredible program. There's still time to volunteer-so if you have a couple of hours free on Friday mornings, come and join us! We're also getting ready for the upcoming holidays. We'll be baking hamantaschen with residents, both in Health Care and Assisted Living, and know that will be a lot of fun (and good snacking!). And, of course, we are gearing up for Passover. Turning over both our kitchens, all of our dining rooms and pantries and creating a Passover plan and menu for close to 300 residents is no small task. We'll also be educating all of our staff on Passover, to help them understand and share in this holiday with our residents. We're also planning some new and fun events for residents including matzo making and a charoseth tasting party. We'll let you know when-maybe you'd like to come out and join in the fun! We're working on some exciting new programs we'll be sharing with you over the next few weeks so stay tuned!
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
