Dear ,
We are all watching the weather today and wondering if the predictions are going to be correct. Have you ever wondered how Cedar Village copes when the weather is severe? We actually have a full scale plan that goes into action when we have a snow emergency or more than six inches of snow. Of course, our biggest concern is making sure that we have full staffing because, as we like to say, we never close! We have arrangements with a local vendor to rent two large four wheel drive vehicles and our transportation staff does an amazing job of bringing folks to work or taking them home. Our staff all work together to make sure that there are no gaps in coverage, realizing that bad weather can cause folks to be late for work, even if they have allowed plenty of time to get here. You just never know what you might encounter on the roads.
We had a lot of special programs this week. On Tuesday evening, we had the chance to host the Cincinnati Jewish and Israeli Film Festival. The film we showed is called "Noodle" and it is an adorable story of a young Chinese boy and an Israeli woman. We had a great crowd, served lots of popcorn and had fun combining both residents and community members to watch the film together. The 92nd Street Y program on Thursday featured the incomparable Patti LuPone and that was a great evening as well.
On Thursday morning we held training for the next semester of OMA (Opening Minds through Art) and had a great crowd, including community members, new volunteers and staff. We are doubling our OMA program for the spring semester, running it in two locations with two groups of residents and volunteers. OMA is an incredible program, using art and the creative process as a means to reach those with even the most advanced dementia. Volunteering for OMA requires no artistic ability, just a desire to work with others and an interest in helping magic take place before your very eyes! If you have two hours on Friday mornings, and you could spare them for about 12 sessions, please get in touch with Marcia Westcott at mwestcott@cedarvillage.org. You will be glad you did!
Speaking of OMA (which I love to do!), we have something very special in our Gift Shop. Actually, we have lots of special things in our Gift Shop-if you haven't checked it out, you should! But this new item happens to be note cards with art from OMA. There are four sets of six cards each and one is more beautiful and interesting than the next. The packs are $10 each and all of the proceeds go back into supporting the OMA program. They made lovely gifts as well-
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
