It is hard to believe that another year has ended and not only a new year, but a new decade, is upon us. At Cedar Village we rang in the new year with music and lots of fun. In the afternoon, we had a party for our Health Care residents in the Cedar Center room. We had festive treats and music--and there was even some singing along. Hats, balloons and party horns added to the festive air. For our Oak View and Fountain View apartment folks, we had a lovely party in the evening. Everyone was dressed up and we had music, dancing and lovely desserts. We had big turnouts for both parties and we enjoyed the chance to celebrate together.
2009 was a year of change at Cedar Village. We faced (and continue to face) new challenges in reimbursement and regulation that make our lives, as long term care providers, much more complicated. And we know there is more to come. But, we were also able to grow new programs, like our successful Cedar Village Home Care program, expand existing services, like our rehab expansion on the first floor and continue serious planning for the future. We know that the world of aging services is one of ongoing change, from our population and their health needs to the way that funding is structured. Cedar Village is doing all that it can to be ready to meet these challenges proactively, to grow and to succeed. Stay tuned for more new initiatives in the weeks and months ahead.
Despite all of this change, though, one thing remains constant and that is our commitment to the people that we serve. It is truly a blessing every day to work with our residents. They share their lives with us, their wisdom, their warmth, their love and bring us so much. It is not the easiest job, working with those in the last part of their lives, but it is truly one of the most rewarding. When a resident says to us, "You are my family," or when they, without words, smile at the touch of a hand, we are reminded of what a privilege it is to do what we do. We do believe, and live the words, that Life Begins at Cedar Village.
We wish you and your families a happy and healthy new year,
All the best,
Carol Silver Elliott
CEO/President

Life Begins at Cedar Village Music Video
In recent months, all of us have had many conversations about health care reform, funding cuts and other concerns that will impact the elderly. We constantly work to make our case with our legislators, community and others that our seniors do matter, that we cannot shortchange them in an effort to reform the system.
Talking about ways to continually reinforce this message, we decided to do something unusual to make our point. We decided to make a music video to show just how active our residents are and how committed our staff all are to making their lives full and rich. Our dear friend, Marc "The Marvelous Toy" Rossio, who performs here often, was kind enough to allow us to use his song "L'Chaim to Life" and one of our talented staff wrote "custom" verses for Cedar Village. Both staff and residents loved both the experience and the finished product. We hope that you do too! It is just one more tool for us to use to talk about who we are, who we serve and remind folks that our elders matter.
Smile and please share this!
