Dear  ,

November is already in full swing! It's hard to believe but fall is definitely in the area.  We are planning our holiday celebrations, from Chanukah to Mitzvah Day to New Year's and are looking forward to some great festivities.

This morning I had the opportunity to visit the ongoing second session of our Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program.  We began this program last spring and will continue with another session next semester as well.  OMA is a project through our collaboration with the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University.  If you have not seen what OMA can do, take a stroll through our Art Gallery hallway.  It is incredibly inspiring.  Not just because the work is beautiful and interesting but because it was done by residents who live at Cedar Village, residents with advanced levels of dementia. The premise of the program is that those with dementia can still create, make choices and be engaged.  It's a way of opening the doors to the person who is still there despite the interference of the disease process.  When you watch OMA in action, you can't help but be overwhelmed.  If you'd like to see for yourself, let me know and we will find a time for you to visit. Who knows?  You might even decide to volunteer and help with the program!

Yesterday we had the first opportunity to share photos and stories from the B'nai Mitzvah Mission with the rest of our Cedar Village family.  We had a great slideshow and then we passed around the microphone for participants, both staff and residents, to share stories.  We had laughter, tears and a lot of great anecdotes.  This was the first of many presentations and we look forward to presenting the details of this wonderful trip to more of our community.

All the best,
