A night of "organized chaos" in the ED The victims arrived in waves, most in Aurora Police patrol cars. In just 13 minutes, the hospital's ED was engulfed in a desperate effort to save the lives involved in the Aurora theater shootings. Across the border for UC Health Negotiations now underway could soon bring Laramie, Wy.-based Ivinson Memorial Hospital into the rapidly expanding sphere of UCH Health. If approved by the Ivinson board of directors, UC Health would manage operations, while Ivinson would retain financial responsiblity for the facility. UC Health President Rulon Stacey (left) calls Ivinson a "like-minded organization" whose values mesh with UC Health.  >>More

Light rail to reach campus sooner than expected The Regional Transportation Board voted 14-0 last week to approve a $350 million bid from Kiewit to build the new line, which would include two stops near the Anschutz Campus. Prep work could begin this fall and construction in the spring, with a scheduled completion date of November 2015.  >>More
  
Rapid growth challenges Maternal Fetal Health Two years after it officially opened, the joint venture between UCH and Children's Hospital Colorado to provide obstetric, neonatal and pediatric surgery services has expanded far more rapidly than anticipated. It has a top fetal surgeon, a state-of-the-art 12-bed unit is scheduled to open in the fall, and it has the pieces to compete with the top programs in the country. But integrating the cultures and staffs of two hospitals and multiple services remains a work in progress.
