Happy New Year! We need to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped our clients for the holidays. Thanks to all of you, every family in need received assistance with holiday meals and gifts. It is such a relief to know that you, our supporters, are so willing to help others.
We have two important things to announce in this email. First, our volunteer group WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere) is actively recruiting in this new year. The group is a great place to bond with other survivors that are moving beyond their pain by helping others. WAVE had a busy year in 2010, they sponsored Take Back the Night at City Hall with the Mayor, they worked with TurnAround to publish the 2nd edition of the Purple Poetry Book, and had a decorating party for our clients. They're planning all these activities and more for 2011 and need more help. If you would like to get involved, check out the information in the Happenings section below and make sure to come to next week's meeting.
Second, WAVE is once again sponsoring a charity production of "The Vagina Monologues" to raise money for TurnAround. This hilarious and moving play has become an international movement to end violence against women. For more information on the movement check out www.vday.org. WAVE's production will be on February 14th but is looking for actresses. You do not need to have any experience to participate, just the passion and the time. Auditions are next week, check out the info below.
