RECOMMENDED This Weekend

$5 bucks a gallon? What gives??

You probably suffered sticker shock recently at the pump and with more gas stations closing temporarily due to fuel shortage, we can expect this month to be a gas guzzler even if we're driving a moped.

Consider this...Gasageddon.

Homeboy

Now's the time to go Metro. Casual Metro riders may be caught by surprise by the new TAP system, but we got the 411 with help from our Homeboy, Ruben Gutierrez.

He was on his way home from work. So we talked a bit about Homeboy Industries and what a great program it is. Their baked goods, chips and salsas are available at many local farmers markets and also at Ralphs supermarkets. If you haven't tried them yet, trust me they are delicious. They have a list of the markets they go to here.

Metro Accessible Activities:

Two Wheels are Better Than Four: Ciclavia

10 miles of LA streets dedicated to those who prefer a little wind in their hair. This is one of our favorite events that we just can't resist checking out be it on bike or foot. New spurs in Boyle Heights, Echo Park and Chinatown make this a must-see and best of all...it's FREE! Find a route near you and check out our April 2012 pictorial below.

PLAN AHEAD: If you missed seeing the space shuttle Endeavor fly over then you have another opportunity to get even more up close and personal next weekend. Endeavor will make its final leg as it's transported from LAX, stopping briefly in Inglewood, reaching its final destination and new home at the California Science Center in Exposition Park. From the friendly skies to our city streets, Endeavor is LA's newest star.

Halloween Guide...We have all the fun & frightening things to do and places to go including pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and all manner of haunted attractions that will make your hair stand on end.

Tap to go Metro - No More Paper Tickets by Andrea Kirk

No more paper tickets on Metro. Here is what you need to avoid frustration with your first TAP transaction.

TAP Machines

I was a bit late to the party on this one. The MTA began locking the turnstiles and requiring TAP cards during August and September. No more paper tickets. The ticketing has changed but it's actually quite easy to use. You will need to buy a $1.00 TAP card as a part of your transaction (if you have not already done so).

Grand Park Downtown: Have you Been Yet? by MR Hunter

Photos by Andrea Kirk

New York City has Central Park and now Los Angeles is greening up Downtown with our own urban friendly version. Totaling 12 acres, Grand Park stretches out like a grassy green carpet from Grand Avenue (hence the name).

Mod pink tables and chairs dot the landscape, offering spectacular views of the municipal architecture, fountains and verdant atmosphere.

Still in process, Grand Park could be LA's greenest gathering space.

Ride the Metro and walk a few blocks this Saturday to Grand Park's Downtown Block Party -- enjoy live music, dancers, aerialists and food trucks. See vertical dance company Bandaloop perform on City Hall's exterior as part of performances cascading down four city blocks!

For more information about Grand Park go to: http://grandpark.lacounty.gov/index.htm

Ciclavia Chicks

The four-legged are welcome to run along the two wheelers.

 Ciclavia Pooch

10 miles of biking can wear a person out so drink lots of water or take a nap curbside

Cruise on down and take a spin on the Metro from 10am - 3pm this Sunday.

Rogue Machine - Yeah, We've Had Our Eye on Them

LA Weekly recently hailed the Rogue Machine Theatre as "The Best Theater Company." This doesn't come as any big surprise to us considering our long-standing critical support since they first arrived on the scene in 2009.

It was Mike Buzzelli, our first theater critic, who predicted big things for this company led by artistic director, John Perrin Flynn.

"Rogue Machine is always pushing the envelope, exciting audiences, and should be hitting on national prominence any minute now."

Following Mike, MR Hunter continues to keep a pulse on the Rogue Machine through reviews and articles that support the kind of theater and events EyeSpyLA looks for: alternative, innovative and edgy.

We congratulate the Rogue Machine for their LA Weekly "Best of..." Yeah, we've had our Eye on them and look forward to seeing more of their work in the years to come.

Playing now at the Rogue Machine: Three Views of the Same Object. Read MR Hunter's review or read it on LA Theater's Bitter Lemons as Critique of the Week.

Upcoming shows at the Rogue Machine: A Bright New Boise and Rant & Rave.

Read past reviews of the Rogue Machine on our On Stage in LA page.

Summer is officially over and Halloween is right around the corner. We'll have a tremendous amount of energy due to the upcoming cooler temperatures. The start of October may see tempers flaring. Take whatever comes in stride. Most signs will be extremely busy and productive. This is an excellent time to push final projects up and out. There's an ideal window of opportunity for gains and lucky breaks until November, so maximize this Saturn and Uranus square. Then we can all relax just in time for the holidays. Stay the course and keep striving.
