FEELING FAIR & FESTIVAL-ISH?

Is that even a word? Well, no, but with so many exciting and tasty festivals going on around town we're feeling the fever. Whether you're craving fried Twinkies at the L.A. County Fair or one of our all-time favorites: The Original Long Beach Lobster Festival (can't you just hear the B-52s be-bopping in the background) this is a Fair-palooza weekend...and yes, we just couldn't stop ourselves from coining a new word.

FREE STUFF:

  • Tonight Dance Downtown - Samba. On the Music Center Plaza.
  • Hang out and feel good at The Sunday Party in Santa Monica. All ages welcome!
  • Get leid at the J.A.M Sessions At The Ford: A Taste Of Hawaii: Hula And Ukulele
  • Who Shot Rock & RollI visited the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City recently.  The current exhibit is WHO SHOT ROCK & ROLL.  A fantastic display of photographs that chronicle the entire era of rock and roll with a documentary about the photographers who did all that shooting.  I liked it so much I had to have the hat.  The exhibit runs through Oct 7th, is free, and they validate parking so it only costs $3.50 for a whole carload of you to go there.

KID FRIENDLY: The kids are back in school but there are still plenty of family fun options. Check out our Kids Stuff and find something for the month of September

BARGAINS: the Eye Spy LA Discounts page is full of great deals for interesting entertainment and activities. These discounts are offered directly from the event and activity producers and so do not have the extra ticketing fees that other discount ticketing services may charge you.

TIP: you can find events and other things to do near you - you'll find neighborhood and regional calendar links at the bottom of all Eye Spy LA web pages.

PONDEROUS BUT NOT POTENT: ATHOL FUGARD'S "THE BLUE IRIS" by M.R. Hunter

The Blue Iris

Athol Fugard isn't exactly a household name but among theater folk, he's a sort of titan figure. With over fifty-five years of playwrighting under his belt and a canon that charts his homeland of South Africa's apartheid all the way through to the grim realities in a post-apartheid country, Fugard is a name that carries significant weight worldwide. Now at 80, he shows no hint of slowing down although his recent plays have taken a palpably reflective, self-referential tone.

This mesmerizing masterpiece of mid-century modernity landed at the NE corner of La Brea and Sunset Boulevards in 1949. The sage green and buttery yellow color combo is simply delicious.
