Wheelin' Around Downtown: cicLAvia & Chinatown
Move over cars! cicLAvia is taking over 10 miles of Downtown in the coolest block party that brings together everyone on two wheels. Explore the city at a leisurely pace from a pedal-friendly perspective. Don't have a bike? No problem. This is worth checking out on foot, skates or roller blades. See our Video of last April's Event. This is my pick for the best event of the spring and it is FREE.
biking, skating, strolling, walking and just plain joyous hanging out on the streets of L.A. this Sunday.
DRAMATIC HIGHLIGHTS:
- A special screening of " Chinatown" at the Orpheum on April 14th - a rare chance to see a classic film at a classic theatre. Also take note: LA Conservancy's annual Last Remaining Seats tickets will go on sale to the public then as well. Tickets are on sale now to members - become a member and get your tickets sooner and at a discount. They sell out fast!
- The Who's Tommy at the Met Theater in Hollywood - this is a small theater production, so don't expect The Who or Elton John/Tina Turner etc. up on stage. However this is a very entertaining show none-the-less. The full house at the performance I went to on a dark and stormy Sunday gave it a standing ovation at the end - and so did I. This weekend is the last chance to see this show.
TIP: you can find events and other things to do near you - you'll find neighborhood and regional calendar links at the bottom of this and all other Eye Spy LA web pages.
If you prefer to consult the charts before you go anywhere, Cici Psy-Chic picks a few events that will align with your sign in each week's Eyestrology Event Forecast.

Six Taste Bizarre Food Challenge
By Abby Abanes
When I think of what constitutes as a "bizarre food", it's not so much that I think particular foods are inherently bizarre by definition. It's more like there are foods out there that I can't fathom myself wanting to eat.
After taking this tour, I can definitely say that my culinary horizons have been expanded. Ox penis, century egg, stinky tofu, and for dessert frog fallopian tubes -- tastes like chicken -- just kidding...

This slide isn't about the makeshift dance hall filled with not-so-dressy dancers, the band clad in iridescent blue, or the guy in the corner with sunglasses..

They Won't Stay Dead! In "Urban Death"
By M.R. Hunter
If you recognize the tagline to this classic zombie film, then you're the perfect victim viewer for Zombie Joe's Underground inurbane "Urban Death" back by popular demand.
Whatever the phobia, be it a fear of the dark, clowns, blood, rats, ghosts, or a broken condom, every conceivable nightmare is exploited to good measure. The intimate black box space adds a slightly claustrophobic/voyeuristic atmosphere and ensures no easy escape for its audience once the show starts. Pregnant women and those suffering from heart conditions should probably pass on this immersive sensory experience as total darkness precedes each scene. For everyone else who enjoys things that go bump in the night, you won't be disappointed here.
Those who've already seen one of the earlier productions of "Urban Death" should return like the Living Dead and get ready to party because Zombie Joe has added more to his repertoire. The tried and true terrors like listening to the scuttling of rats in total darkness or seeing a baby eat his excrement are all still there for your twisted viewing pleasure. There's vomit, drugs, semen, rape and other garden-variety misfortunes as well as the outright freakish and strange.
