HATS, URBAN ART, LIVE HISTORY & KOSHER TACOS THIS WEEKEND
HATS are the theme for the annual Museums of the Arroyo Day this Sunday. Guests at this year's free event are encouraged to wear fashionable, crazy and sporty hats as they tour the five participating museums.
URBAN ART: Several popular art walks turn urban streets into street festivals each month. Yesterday it was the LA Downtown Art Walk that attracts a huge crowd perusing art in likely and unlikely places (scroll down to read all about it), this Saturday you can head to the Long Beach 2nd Saturday Art Walk, and San Pedro has their art walk on the 1st Thursday each month. More Art in the Streets can be found at the current exhibit at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA through August 8th.
HISTORY LIVES: Saturday learn about the Life of Inventor M.J. Trumble at Heritage Junction in Santa Clarita. Re-live the Civil War at the Heritage Days Civil War Reenactment at Pierce College this weekend. And on a lighter note: Charles Phoenix will be show and telling history at the Retro Knott's Berry Farm Show with his vast collection of mid 20th century Kodachrome slides at the Birdcage Theatre, tickets include all day park admission.
LEND A HELPING HAND: help WE BUILD this Saturday and Sunday finish painting, plastering and building a playground for Habitat for Humanity in Pacoima. On Saturday head to Tia Chucha's for the ChuchART gallery fundraiser - activities for the whole family will help them raise funds for their gallery. It's time for the annual BIG SUNDAY WEEKEND - plenty of volunteer helping experiences are available.
JEWISH CULTURE: the annual Jewish Film Festival wrapped up yesterday, but you can still head to Santa Clarita for the annual Jewish Food & Cultural Festival on Sunday - yes, there will be food trucks including Takosher selling the chosen tacos.

JAPANESE FOOD WITH A FILIPINO TWIST AT KAZUYO SUSHI by Abby Abanes

It's amazing how circumstances can sometimes bring a new restaurant onto your radar. If I hadn't been part of the whole Bay2LA experience, I wouldn't have met blogger, Asian Clark Kent, who told all of us about Kazuyo Sushi, a Filipino-owned restaurant where Chef Joe Cubangbang merges a little bit of Filipino into some of the Japanese dishes on their menu.
After hearing all the raves about Kazuyo Sushi, I knew it was a place I wanted to check out, so once a date and time was set, a lunch at Kazuyo was soon on the books for yet another Filipino Tweatup. Suffice to say, it was an epic tasting menu where we were able to sample a lot of delicious bites from their menu...

EDSEL ON PARADE, DECATUR, ILLINOIS, 1957 by Charles Phoenix

I know, it's mesmerizing! That double-decker horse collar grill and all-around "Queen From Outer Space"-age styling is more than we mere Earthlings are hard-wired to comprehend.
We're lovin' the trio of beauty queen wannabees mistaking the back seat as a throne for three...

ART TAKES TO THE STREETS: DOWNTOWN ART WALK
by M.R. Hunter
Art is everywhere downtown these days. A resurgence of vital energy spills onto the streets of downtown Los Angeles at the free Downtown Art Walk event every second Thursday of the month. Whether you're a first time Art Walker or an Art Walking aficionado, there's always something new to see. In a clash of eclectic art and bohemian urbanity, the self-guided tour (aided by maps given out by galleries or available online) allows hipsters to follow their own beat thumped out by the thousands gathering in and around remodeled bank buildings, high-end galleries and several parking lots loaded with gourmet food trucks...
