FOOD TRUCKS GO TO THE RACES

April Fools! Spend this foolish First Friday at NHM. Then go on a Magical Magnolia Bicycle Tour in Burbank, play Stickball at the Autry, Dance Among the Trees at McCroarty Park, or...
Gourmet food truck mania continues this week at Santa Anita where apparently their first food truck fest, a couple of months ago, was so successful, they're not only doing a second festival but there will be 70 of the meals on wheels providers filling the entire infield. General admission is only $5 this Saturday. Not only will you have the opportunity to eat well, you can play the ponies too.
So what's with this rolling food fad anyway? Well for starters, the food is pretty good. More about that coming soon.
PLAN AHEAD ALERT! There are some events that you simply cannot wait until the last minute to decide to go. LAST REMAINING SEATS, the LA Conservancy's annual screenings of classic movies in classic movie palaces, is one of them. It sells out every year. This year's screenings take place on Wednesdays May 25 through June 29. Tickets are now on sale for members. Tickets will go on sale to the public on April 13th.
There's more of course,

"BEE-HIND" THE SCENES AT BILL'S BEES
By Abby Abanes

I set up a tour of Bill's Bee Ranch for my dining group and our education started as soon as we stepped onto the property located in the Angeles National Forest. The first thing we learned from Beekeeper, William "Bill" Lewis was that almost all the honey that he sells at various farmer's markets all over Los Angeles is homemade. Literally!
One thing that Bill emphasized during the tour is that the way to interact with a bee is simply to not make any sudden movements. Move slowly or keep still until they leave you. Batting them away just freaks them out and that's usually when you get stung. By the way, I mention this tidbit because for part of our tour, some of us really got up close and personal with the bees.
Want to go? Next tour on May 15th...

3 MIN. TO HOLLYWOOD, 1954 by Charles Phoenix
Snapdragons snuggled up to a knee-high, white-washed picket fence border the front yard of a rural Los Angeles motel. Apparently, Little Miss Redhead, is quite happy to be close to glamourland where she can breathe easily as she smiles and clutches a flowerless bouquet!
This slide comes to us courtesy of "Little Miss Redhead" herself whom I had the pleasure of meeting recently in Palm Springs. No sooner did we meet than she's telling me she has slides of the motel her grandparent's owned in San Fernando Valley "after the war." Without skipping a beat I politely asked to see the slides. (OK, I demanded to see them!)
