SIT, WALK, RUN THIS WEEKEND in L.A.
FRIDAY rest up after St. Pat's Day celebrating and sit down for a double dose of classic James Bond films at the Egyptian in Hollywood. Or "The Lincoln Lawyer" opens today in a theater near you. I'm a fan of local author Michael Connelly and have read most of his books. This is the first of them to be made into a movie and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
SATURDAY take a North Hollywood Historic Walking Tour - did you know Marilyn Monroe went to school there? Or head to the Santa Monica Airport for their 5th Annual Artwalk - along with artists and performances there will be food truck fare as well.
SUNDAY leave the running to the competitors in this year's L.A. Marathon. You can cheer them on at one of the many cheer zones along the route, like the 18th Street LA Marathon Cheer Zone in Santa Monica. Then head to Sierra Madre for the annual Wistaria Festival - every year this plus sized plant (at around 250 tons it is the world's largest blossoming plant) takes over the town and it is quite a sight. Eye Spy LA has been there of course.
MORE MARATHON NEWS - whether you plan to go or not:
A comprehensive map of the route, street closures, nearby parking lots and race information is now available online at www.Commuterama.com to make planning much easier.
Streets in downtown Los Angeles will re-open by about 10 a.m., in West Hollywood by about 1 p.m., in Beverly Hills by about 1:30 p.m. and in west Los Angeles by approximately 3 p.m. Streets in Santa Monica are expected to re-open for the most part by 5 p.m., with the finish line at Ocean and California Avenues open until 9 p.m. Sunday evening. All of the area's freeways will be open, although some on-ramps/off-ramps will be closed. The race will start at Dodger Stadium, with the wheelchair athletes going first at 6:53 a.m., the women's elite field at 7:11 a.m. and the men's elites and the rest of the field at approximately 7:29 a.m. Plus there is the LA Marathon Expo at Dodger Stadium on Friday Saturday. Here is where the entertainment will be. Here is a link to the spectator guide.
There's more of course,

MUCHO TACO LOVE FOR CACAO MEXICATASSEN
By Abby Abanes

The first time I ever heard about Cacao Mexicatessen was from reading an article somewhere about their duck carnitas tacos. Those tacos sounded so delicious that I filed the name of the restaurant in the back of my mind as a place to hit up when I got a chance.
I can't believe I waited a year to try their food...

"Trio" by Israela Margalit, currently making its U.S. debut at the Lounge Theater in Hollywood, chronicles the relationships between iconic composer Robert Schumann, his illustrious wife, Clara Schumann, and the dynamic young composer Johannes Brahms. A WINNING WARLOCK - MAGIC AT THE BEVERLY WILSHIRE HOTEL by Mark Share
The magician Ivan Amoedi performs close-up tricks with cards and small props (these include pins, candy mints, and scrabble tiles) for an intimate and participatory audience of about thirty in a posh room accompanied by a cellist in a red evening gown.
No incantations here -- just stuff that he rightly says will "freak you out!" You leave and try to deduce with your fellow guests, ranging from enchanted couples to delighted kids, how he did this and that and admire the pace of his patter...
