AS SWEET AS RUGELACH: "A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN"  by M.R. Hunter

A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN

Jake Ehrenreich's dynamic one-man show reflects on his Jewish American childhood as the son of Holocaust survivors with frank humor, showy musical numbers and heartwarming nostalgia. Chronicling through embarrassing family photos and personal stories, Ehrenreich deftly plumbs his cultural roots from the bris to his bar mitzvah; summers spent in the Catskills, a musical career, an unexpected marriage and a son, the proud inheritor of this "survivor family."

It's easy to see why this show was so successful in New York CitY...

CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH SNOW  by Mark Share

SNOWBALL

The massive storms of the past two weekends have made the mountains shine white in the horizons around the City, beckoning families with kids to play in the snow. The local mountain resorts have always drawn skiers, but there's also plenty of fun for non- or pre-skiers -- sledding, snowball fights, and building snowmen.

The closest and oldest of the ski areas is Mt. Baldy, a mere one and a quarter hours from, for example the San Fernando Valley...

SIMPLY MAGICAL: "THE ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO" AT DEAF WEST THEATRE  by M.R. Hunter

PINNOCCHIO

Audiences of any age will delight in Deaf West's family friendly production of "The Adventures of Pinocchio" featuring a balanced cast of deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing performers.

Adapted by Lee Hall, this version remains true to the original story, which is much darker than the Disney animated film, but works well on stage with more dramatic action and memorable characters plotting against the wooden puppet as he learns life lessons along his journey.

The commedia dell'arte flourishes add an authentic feel to Carlo Collodi's cautionary fairy tale and provides the cast plenty of opportunity for exaggerated movement and comedic horseplay...

LUSCIOUS MOVEMENT - KIDD PIVOT PERFORMS CRYSTAL PITE'S "LOST ACTION" @UCLA LIVE  by Kelly Hargraves

KID PIVOT

Crystal Pite may live in Frankfurt, but she's Canadian. So when her company stands still on stage in snow jackets waddling around like snowmen, it seems natural, especially on such a cold LA day! But as these stiff, solid snowmen (and 2 women) begin to melt we see a break in their solidity; a limbless quality that flows like a watery fluid.

In "Lost Action" Pite directs an international cast of superb movers who have not only mastered release technique and sequential movement, but also their own very personal, individual vocabularies...

TREAT YOURSELF TO A RADIO PLAY - NOVEL AND EXCITING PERFORMANCES AT THE SKIRBALL CULTURAL CENTER  by M.R. Hunter

STACY KEACH

The radio drama is alive and well thanks to the dedicated efforts of nonprofit media organization, L.A. Theatre Works and their The Play's the Thing series recorded live at the Skirball Cultural Center.

Theatergoers won't find any fancy set designs here let alone an unscripted performance, but the live experience is unmatched by the veritable talents lending their voices to an extensive catalog of plays broadcasted on LATW's weekly public radio show.

Heard around the world with their BBC collaboration as well as other international broadcasters, LATW reaches an audience of 7 million listeners annually in over 100 U.S. markets and is available free and on-demand on their streaming site.

The experience is so unlike the traditional theatrical fare that those who've never sat in on these live recordings should really treat themselves to such a novel and exciting performance...

"SEX/LOVE OR LOVE/SEX" - A PHENOMENAL NIGHT OF THEATER AT THE CIRCLE X 10 MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL  by Ali Tobia

CIRCLE X

"Sex/Love or Love/Sex"is a festival of ten minute plays produced by the Circle X Theater Company at the Atwater Village Theater. "Sex/Love or Love/Sex"is a first-rate theatrical experience. The night features nine imaginative new short plays generated from within the Circle X Writers Group and stars new and former Circle X actors.

There are pleasurable portions of humor, authenticity, idiosyncrasy, and elevation. The acting is genuine and connected. As a whole, "Sex/Love or Love/Sex"is stimulating and satisfying...
