Brrrrrr IT'S WINTER IN LA but...

Recent cold and rain here set up some very beautiful views. Model aircraft fly with a background of snowy mountains in the Sepulveda Recreation Area and nearby at Lake Balboa the Cherry trees are in full bloom. Another great place for a snowy view is the Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area. Duck indoors Friday and Saturday, but get out and enjoy the views on Sunday before you get too cozy on the couch with the Oscars.

WARM YOUR FUNNY BONE: Attend Joni and Gina's Wedding (read M.R. Hunter's review), interactive theater where you are a guest - food, drinks, hilarity, and partying ensue on Saturday at Oil Can Harry's in Studio City. More fun on the Comedy calendar.
WARM YOUR MIND & BODY: on a Murder at the Getty Scavenger Hunt on Saturday. Visit a museum - check out the Museum page.
WARM YOUR WALLET: with savings on places to go this weekend and beyond on the Eye Spy LA Discounts page.
WARM YOUR SEAT: at a cozy theater to see a classic film. Check the FILM calendar for the full schedule this week. Film buffs can learn about Early Warner Bros. Studios at a free presentation in Santa Clarita on Saturday. For even more coziness squeeze inside a small theatre for a live performance by one of L.A'.s many fine small theatre groups. Check the Theatre calendar for current plays in L.A. Or read the latest Eye Spy LA's Stage Reviews for recommendations. This just in Rogue Machine's acclaimed Sunset Limited has extended again through March 27th. Eye Spy LA's theatre critic, M.R. Hunter, picked this play as one of the top 10 in 2010. Read the review here.
GO GREEN: Help Vista Hermosa Natural Park do some spring cleaning, join Tree People and help out some trees, or recycle your e-waste in Woodland Hills.
PLAN AHEAD FESTIVAL ALERT: Next Saturday, March 5th, the annual Lantern Festival ends the Chinese New Year celebrations. Plus for the 11th year, L.A. celebrates Brazilian Carnaval and for the 2nd time, Long Beach celebrates Mardi Gras.

THANK GOODNESS I'M A CARNIVORE By Abby Abanes

Robert, who's an Assistant Organizer for my dining group, set up a Sunday BBQ at Bludso's BBQ in Compton and after experiencing their food, all I could say was "Thank goodness I'm a carnivore." When we arrived, one of the first things I saw was a deep fried turkey being pulled out of a fryer. Crispy skin and juicy turkey meat! What a great precursor to what would turn out to be quite a BBQ feast...

CELEBRATING CHINESE NEW YEAR in L.A. by Andrea Kirk

My favorite parade of the year is also the first parade of the year and that is the Annual Golden Dragon Parade in Chinatown. This year's parade to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit did not disappoint. Still to come is the final celebration: the Annual Chinese Lantern Festival on March 5th. Eye Spy LA took the Metro Red Line to the parade this year...

Take a breather this week, Angelenos! This is a good time to just kick back and relax. Don't be surprised though by a sudden flurry of invites and social gatherings. Mix and mingle, but keep it casual. Verbal communication for most signs will be tricky. Say less, not more. Be enigmatic! This is an emotional week for everyone. Stay detached when faced with adversity. Don't hide behind a stoic façade either, but try to remain objective and clear-headed. Use the next few days for more indoor activities and personal timeouts. Put in extra hours at work or volunteer.
