LOVE & FIRECRACKERS

Valentine's DayLOVE: For twisted love go to Venice for Black Valentine's on Friday. Then the Year of The Rabbit festivities continue in Chinatown with the Annual Nite N Day Arts Festival Weekend and 5/10k Firecracker Run/Walk. Monday is Valentine's Day but many will be looking for something special to do on the weekend - here are a few unusual things to do to celebrate or not.

FIRECRACKERS: Celebrations continue in Chinatown at the Annual Nite N Day Arts Festival Weekend and 5/10k Firecracker Run/Walk. If you haven't been to this popular event and want to know what it's like, Eye Spy LA went to last year's Firecracker Run where they set off 100,000 firecrackers to start the race. It was a beautiful day last year and looks to be another one this year.

Firecracker Run

LOVE 4 ANIMALS: This weekend join other dog lovers at the West Valley Dog Sports Agility Trials at the L.A. County Fairplex. On Sunday head to the "wildly" romantic event: Sex In The City Zoo 2 in Griffith Park or go Winter Birding at King Gillette Ranch.

LOVE FOR EVERYONE at Joni and Gina's Wedding, interactive theater where you are a guest - food, drinks, hilarity, and partying ensue on Saturdays in February at Oil Can Harry's in Studio City.

A FEW UNIQUE THINGS TO DO TO CELEBRATE VDAY:
My vote for most unusual - take your loved one to The Science and Art of Forensic Investigations and spend a half day in a crime lab for an unforgetable shared experience. Oh baby!

Not as unusual, but definitely different ways to celebrate: A Celtic Valentine's Day, a Magicopolis Valentine's Show, or a Valentine's Day Dinner at a museum ( MOLAA in Long Beach). Single? Head to the 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica on Monday evening to speed date on The World's Longest Sofa. If you aren't single, you can cuddle with your loved one on the super sofa prior to the speed dating event.

Get all the details and the full list here or, if you prefer some psychic advice before you make any moves, scroll below for Cici's Eyestrology forecast for the coming week.

You'll find more fun ways to celebrate or not this weekend on the Valentine's Day page.

EXPLORING L.A.'S CULTURAL DIVERSITY ONE BITE AT A TIME By Abby Abanes

Six Taste Tour

In August 2009, two enterprising USC Grads, Jeff Okita and Alex Tao, launched one of Los Angeles' premiere food tour companies, Six Taste. Six Taste is so called because it hints at the possible discovery of a new taste beyond sweet, sour, salty, bitter and savory through one of their many weekly tours. Tour destinations include a Downtown LA Food Tour, Hollywood Food Tour, New Chinatown Food Tour and much more. Click here to see all their available tours.

I took the Six Taste
Delicious Dumpling Tour in Arcadia, CA. The focus of the tour was on Taiwanese food and apparently, Arcadia has become quite a mecca for this type of cuisine...

FALL IN LOVE WITH THE ANDAK STAGE COMPANY'S U.S. PREMIERE OF LOPE DE VEGA'S "THE CAPULETS AND THE MONTAGUES"

By M.R. Hunter

CAPULETS and the MONTAGUES

Unlike Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet", Lope de Vega's comedic version based on the same source material (Arthur Brooke's narrative poem The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet) has these star-crossed lovers living happily ever after.

Dakin Matthews' crisp rhyming verse translation speeds along in its witty banter and vivid specificity. There's no false note or thoroughly modern invention here. Matthews-a notable dramaturge and translator, remains faithful to de Vega's light pastoral tones with subtle nuances and gentle phrasing. There is also a touch of de Vega's well-known "cloak-and-sword" action and intrigue, but the play itself is an intoxicating, if not whimsical tale of literature's most beloved couple...

"SPRING AWAKENING" BURSTS WITH GREATNESS @ THE PANTAGES

By Ali Tobias

SPRING AWAKENING

Based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play of the same name, SPRING AWAKENING blends sexuality, morality, and rock and roll as it follows a group of young German students as they navigate their self discovery against the backdrop of repressive and provincial 19th century attitudes.

So many musicals fall flat. They are also known to grate the nerves and assault the senses. SPRING AWAKENING is different
