A PLETHORA OF POSSIBILITIES!

Winter in Los Angeles

If you've ever wanted to explore the art scene in Downtown LA, but maybe didn't quite want to go on the monthly Thursday night Art Walk, here is your opportunity to see it all in one weekend as Art Month turns into Art Weekend.  The annual Los Angeles Art Show is at the Convention Center and Art Weekend LA provides a shuttle to all the other major art venues and art districts downtown.  So, you can go to the really big show and then visit places like Gallery Row, Chinatown, the Arts District, and Bunker Hill all this weekend. Whew!

Or if body art is more your thing, head to the Fairplex for the Tattoo & MMA Expo in Pomona.

MORE FAIR WEATHER FUN: take a Walking Tour of Historic North Hollywood or go on Dogswell's Homeward Hound Hike.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW IN THE NEW YEAR - you'll find everything from the Art of Listening to Burlesque Dancing classes offered on the Eye Spy LA Classes/workshops calendar.

There's more of course ...

Get all the details and the full list here or, if you prefer some psychic advice before you make any moves, scroll below for Cici's Eyestrology forecast for the coming week.

MARCH DOWN TO "ME, AS A PENGUIN" AT THE LOST STUDIO By M.R. Hunter

ME, AS A PENGUIN

"A drop-stitch isn't the end of the world." For Stitch (Brendan Hunt), his world starts to unravel after stealing a baby penguin. Seeing himself in the runt that can't "get any," Stitch impulsively hides the animal in his nephew's Transformer lunch box before stowing it in his sister's bathroom shower.

This is the odd but brilliantly irreverent premise to Tom Wells' American premiere of his London play, which opened last year at the Arcola Theatre to rave reviews...

By Ali Tobia

SHOW YOUR FACE

"Show Your Face!",now at the REDCAT until January 23rd,is an aesthetic dreamscape, a suspenseful tale, and an in-your-face personal confrontation. "Show Your Face!" is a collaborative piece by Bentontanc, a Slovenian dance-theater company, and Umka.LV, a Latvian puppet theater troupe and uses Bentontanc's gripping physical style and Umka.LV's master puppet techniques in such a way as to activate the audience into a scenic world, a powerful story, and ultimately into a personal reflection...

A DATE WITH A DINO: FIRST FRIDAYS AT THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
By
 M.R. Hunter

Mark your calendars because First Fridays at the Natural History Museum are back through June. The 8th Annual series attracted a long line of eager guests on its opening night January 7th. What has made this so successful is the live music concerts and DJ lounge with bar along with their popular guided tours and talks.

This year marks the Nostradamus Edition, but Nostradamus himself probably didn't foresee his name in lights splashed along the proscenium walls...

THE STATE OF THE STAGE IN LA & THE TOP 10 IN 2010 By M.R. Hunter

ON STAGE 2010

This last year was a bit of an experiment and a personal holdout for me to strive towards reviewing shows and theatre companies that sometimes slip between the cracks and spine of our Playbills and Footlights programs. I didn't see them all, but of those I did see here are my personal top ten in 2010.

And the top ten of 2010 were...
