THIS WEEK IN L.A. Rain, Ice, Autos, and a Great Walk

This weekend is looking a lot like rain so if you need to duck for cover check out some great FILM or THEATRE. You could also duck into the LA Auto Show at the Convention Center that starts this weekend through the 28th.
Downtown On Ice is now open in Pershing Square. Take the Metro Red Line to the Pershing Square Station. Along with ice skating in one of the most picturesque settings in the L.A. area, look forward to concerts and other special events throughout the rest of the year. There will be a Menorah Lighting on Dec. 1st.
WALKING IN THE RAIN IN LA? Angelenos may end up singing and dancing in the rain when they hit the sidewalks along Wilshire Blvd. for the Great Los Angeles Walk 2010 on Saturday. Participants will meet at Pershing Square and then walk the entire length of Wilshire Blvd. (15 + miles) rain or shine. Got an umbrella?
RACE AROUND AND HUNT FOR THINGS: Teens can go on a Library Scavenger Hunt at the Crowell Public Library in San Marino on Friday. Harry Potter fans can go on a Wizard's School Scavenger Hunt at the Getty Center on Saturday. Art lovers can race around underground on an LA Metro Art Adventure on Saturday.
PLAN AHEAD: Next week is Thanksgiving. YAY! extra time off and many people who stay in town probably have friends and family visiting from out of town. So, look for lots of things to do next weekend including more scavenger hunts (where you not only can show off someplace interesting in the city to visit, but maybe burn off a few bites of pumpkin pie.) Also the Sunday after Thanksgiving head to Hollywood for the Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade. MORE HOLIDAY EVENTS
There's more of course ...

ROGUE MACHINE'S KNOCKOUT "THE SUNSET LIMITED" TAKES NO PRISONERS by M.R. Hunter
The stakes are high in Pulitzer prize-winning novelist Cormac McCarthy's explosive two-hander mortal struggle over faith versus reason, pitting the philosophical debate in what amounts to an arm-wrestling match between convictions. Heavy on dialogue but low in action, this intellectual smackdown is a white-knuckle, gut-wrenching emotional ride with its shattering conclusion that takes no prisoners... Read the full REVIEW

LAUREL TAVERN PROVES WHY IT'S A POPULAR PUB IN STUDIO CITYThe casual, relaxed vibe continually draws a big crowd, especially on weekend nights with the occasional line winding outside the door. Lunch hours are less crowded and can be a nice, quiet place to chill with a microbrew and one of their excellent burgers...... Read the full Story |

HYPERBOLE: ORIGINS @ [INSIDE] THE FORD IS ALL HYPE by M.R. Hunter
Hyperbole-noun, Rhetoric. 1. Obvious and intentional exaggeration. 2. An extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally.
It helps to remember what this "hyper-theatrical" endeavor presented by the Rogue Artists Ensemble is all about since it's not clear if director Sean T. Cawelti knows and even less likely that the audience will.
It is extravagant, i.e. wasteful and excessive in its paper-thin plot, playing on a theme about oddball origins and myths in lieu of any cohesive story.....

LEANING TOWER OF CRANBERRY, TARZANA, CA 1960 By Charles Phoenix
Honey blonde cabinets and flowery fence wallpaper provide a wiry and warm backdrop for a dear mother and her milk-drinking Clark Kent wannabe son. Say cheese! It's Thanksgiving, the most famous dinner day of the year. The food looks delicious, but I can't take my eyes off the leaning tower of cranberry sauce...
