EN POINTE FOR THE WEEKEND: THINK GLOBAL, DANCE LOCAL - CORELLA BALLET CASTILLA Y LEÓN; LA CITY BALLET AND LACDC
by Kelly Hargraves

I consider myself more of a tour guide than a cheerleader but this week I find myself cheering for the home teams! That's because two companies that have made the city their own by declaring themselves "the" ballet company and "the" contemporary company repping LA are presenting works. And, I have to say, that having seen these two emerging companies has made me a little prideful, because I like their spirit and energy, not only of their artistic directors but of the youthful, exuberant dancers...so ra ra ra and zis boom bah your way to see City Ballet of Los Angeles and LA Contemporary Dance Company. And, if you're looking for another country's local boy made good, you can sashé over to the Music Center for Spain's Cordella Ballet Castilla y Léon......

TWO DREAM TEAM CASTS IN "THE AUTUMN GARDEN" - IMMENSELY SATISFYING @ DEAF WEST THEATRE
by M.R. Hunter
In a city obsessed with youth, where growing old gracefully is more a vice than a virtue, The Antaeus Company's double-cast revival of Lillian Hellman's frank, Chekhovian masterpiece concerning the immutability of middle-age is a sensational tour de force championed by both veteran casts.
Considered by Ms. Hellman as her "most satisfying play," these productions are just that, immensely satisfying-one feels a sort of languor afterwards, much like the languid desperation of Hellman's characters fending off the autumn of their days...

DISNEYLAND POSER, MAIN ST, USA, 2010 By Charles Phoenix
Recently, I hopped in the 'ol car and went for a Sunday drive. After about an hour of driving east of LA, I found myself in the fine city of Redlands. Several signs pointed to a "historic landmark," the Kimberly Crest Mansion and Gardens. I thought I'd give it a whirl.
I love old homes and gardens, and I've toured my fair share. But standing before this oh-so stately French chateau-ish Victorian mansion built in 1897 was hypnotizing.
