IT'S HIGH TIME FOR HIGH TEA IN LOS ANGELES
by M.R. Hunter
High TeaHigh Tea in LA - There are plenty (maybe too many) coffee shops throughout the area, but tearooms are growing more popular with their own unique ambiance and charm. The old tradition of making time for a spot of afternoon tea is becoming hipper than stopping at a PinkBerry and a lot cooler than an iced latte from Starbucks...

EYE POPPING PLACES TO GO
by Andrea Kirk

Getty PlazaI had the opportunity to stop in at the Getty recently particularly to see the current Photography exhibit Engaged Observers: Documentary Photography Since the 60's.  Also on display now. the spectacular art of Gérôme and, opening today, the Ancient Greek Theatre exhibit.

Just walking around the grounds makes it well worth going there anytime and like many of L.A.'s museums the Getty Center offers all kinds of special programming and events.  Saturdays Off the 405 is a monthly music program. This Saturday: The Antlers 6 pm - 9 pm in the Museum Courtyard.  Enjoy the view.  Admission is free, parking is $15 (so take a carload of friends and family when you go.)

After the Getty, I headed to the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City to see the best documentary photography of 2009 at their current exhibition, Pictures of the Year International (now through Oct. 10). This exhibition is simply spectacular and a must see.  The space, dedicated to photography, features state of the art digital technology and is an incredible place to visit. Located at 2000 Avenue of the Stars. Hours are Wed through Sunday 11am to 6pm. Admission is free and they validate parking so the cost is only $3.50 in the garage below.

You don't need to leave home to view eye popping photography:  the LA Times now has a photo blog area called Framework. LAT photographers each have galleries of their work that you can view.  Thanks for the tip to Genaro Molina because otherwise you'd never find this on the LAT website. View Genaro's fantastic photos of L.A. at framework.latimes.com/who-we-are/genaro-molina/.  The galleries of all of these incredible photographers provide a rich picture of L.A. and the world around us.

"ALL MY SONS" HITS HOME
AT THE RUSKIN GROUP THEATRE

by M.R. Hunter

All My Sons
WWII may be over in Arthur Miller's devastating tragedy, but in the comfortable middle-class, Keller household an entirely insidious and deeply more personal war is about to be waged. Taking no prisoners in this quietly unfolding plot, each character must confront a terrible truth they wish to deny. The consequences are shattering, the message a warning against the dehumanizing effect of big business when there is no ethical filter to keep it in restraint.

...There are not any licenses taken in this straightforward, if not determinedly exacting production. It runs as smoothly as a well-oiled machine. The pace strikes a perfect balance between measured and frenzied without losing control of either...

CHARLES PHOENIX
A gent and tot pose together on a not-quite-cornered, teal frieze-covered armchair that, for some reason, reminds me of a bumper car. It looks so strong and sturdy. Behind them, windowless walls are papered in a rare Mexican pebble print and dressed with an unexpected bamboo pattern on one wall and a CinemaScope-scale scape of ocean waves splashing on a rocky shore on the other...

SANTA MONICA AIRPORT FLEA MARKET

by M.R. Hunter

Santa Monica Airport Flea MarketWhether you're looking for a rare collectible or just an unusual find, it's likely you'll find it here at this outdoor flea market located directly across from the Santa Monica Airport.

Open from 6am to 3pm on the first and fourth Sunday of every month (but not the fifth, as is the case this month) regardless of weather, this flea market offers a variety of goods ranging from antique to vintage chic.

Over 175 vendors set up shop in the expansive parking lot with wide walkways to accommodate crowds without shoppers feeling overly crowded. Dogs on leashes are welcome here too and there's plenty of free parking available in lots across the market on Airport Avenue...

Happy birthday to these celebrity Virgos: Alexa Vega (08/27), LeAnn Rimes (08/28), Lea Michele (08/29), Cameron Diaz (08/30), Debbie Gibson (08/31), Dr. Phil McGraw (09/01), Keanu Reeves (09/02).

With this recent heat wave, Angelinos will be looking forward to cooler temperatures and planning for Labor Day Weekend getaways. Enjoy these last couple of weeks of summer with a last minute trip to the beach. This is a very social week so firm up any commitments and RSVP.

If you haven't made it out to the Hollywood Bowl this season then now is the time to do it. When the sun is blazing in the sky, cool down with a movie at the Egyptian or Arclight. There's plenty to dance about this weekend and EyeSpyLA ticket giveaways to excellent theatre productions...
