'Twas the week before the holidays when all through the town
people scurried here and there for gifts to be found
The stores were all crammed with holiday fare
in hopes that shoppers soon would be there
He in his truck and she in her car
were stuck in the traffic that stretched near and far
To the north, to the south, to the east and the west
the freeways were jammed, the streets were a mess
Out in the parking lot there arose such a clatter,
nobody sprang up to look, they knew what was the matter
The lot was full, drivers fumed as they sought
a spot to alight so some gifts could be bought
A guy in a Ford hit a Cabriolet
The other cars honked, they were blocking the way
The sun on the windows of all the cars in the rows,
caused the light to shimmer as they came to blows
Then what to everyone's wondering eyes should arrive,
a really big bus pulled up in the drive
And shoppers hopped off lively and quick
as they went to the shops to choose and to pick
More rapid than autos the metros they came,
and we saw them and watched them and called them by name
The dash bus, the rapid, the local and the metro,
from rail, from the busway, by gas, by electro
They go here and go there and go all around
When they meet with an obstacle they go underground
Toward Downtown, Pasadena, the Valley and Long Beach they flew
Loaded with passengers, their stuff and a bicycle or two
I heard the riders exclaim as they drove out of sight,
"What a great way to go and avoid traffic blight!"
