RBC Wealth Management is proud to support CAFE's upcoming national symposium celebrating family businesses and presenting the Canadian Family Enterprise of the Year. Our team works closely every day with successful family businesses to help them meet their financial goals and ensure their long-term professional success. One of the most critical considerations for family businesses is how to effectively plan for the transition of business ownership from either one generation to the next, to management or a third party sale. However, this can be a complex process, as it can involve both business and family considerations. It is therefore essential to plan ahead. Succession planning generally involves assembling an advisory team that includes an investment advisor, an accountant, a lawyer, a chartered business valuator, commercial and personal bankers, the management team and family members. Succession planning should also involve the development of a financial plan and a contingency plan and can include strategies such as family trusts, estate freezes, Individual Pension Plans and insurance.. A large percentage of business owners that we work with feel that planning in advance has helped them provide for their family's future and many report that they have been able to minimize their future tax liability and improve their business' financial stability. - Prashant Patel, Vice President, High Net Worth Planning Services, RBC Wealth Management http://www.rbcwealthmanagement.com/canada.
