Greetings!

Wishes for a happy Chanukka too all those who celebrate the Jewish Holiday - and it's now official that he season's holidays have begun. Along with the holiday parties, shopping and gift giving, it's also time to think hard about your planning for the coming year. This issue has a few ideas on how to plan to be a better leader  thanks to the written words of Seth Godin and Patrick Lencioni- and what could be some economic news to look forward to as well from Brian Westbury. Finally, Warren Buffet instructs us on how to find value in even the most unexpected places (like the US Government).

On the subject of planning, I am having an extraordinary presentation at my December 22 CEO meeting on "Make or Break Execution" - strategic planning to connect performance to vision- by one of Vistage's most revered subject matter experts, Dan Barnett. If you are a CEO and are seriously considering Vistage membership - or membership in any CEO peer group - please contact me of you would like to attend as my guest. I have a limited number of seats for guests for this morning presentation.

Getting Naked - A fable about Shedding the 3 Fears that Sabotage Loyalty
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lencioni I urge every CEO and senior executive that I work with to read Patrick Lencioni's terrific management books...especially "The Five Temptations of a CEO"  and "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" ( which has been on the business best seller lists for some time...you can get a terrific video by the same title that is sure to change how you manage  your team. )
Lencioni's newest book,  "Getting Naked: A Business Fable About Shedding The Three Fears That Sabotage Client Loyalty" http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Naked-Business-Shedding-Sabotage/product-reviews/0787976393/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 This is a must read - not just for service providers, but for any one whose business requires any degree of personal interaction with customers and clients beyond the transaction itself.
Warren Buffett to Uncle Sam: Pretty Good for Government Work
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buffet Most business people have not been fans of the government, especially recently.  However, Warren Buffett reminds us that even Uncle Sam has his moments.... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/17/opinion/17buffett.html?scp=3&sq=Buffett&st=cse and the world today might look very different but for the few things that only government can do.
