"A Conversation between Chip Simone and Kael Alford"

Wednesday, April 20th, 7:30PM

 Kael Alford

"Death in the Family" © 2003, Kael Alford

Kael Alford is a freelance photojournalist, videographer and writer based in Dallas, Texas. She began her career as a photojournalist based in the Balkans from 1996-2001 for American and European newspapers and magazines. Alford also works in the Middle East and documented the invasion of Iraq in 2003, through 2004.

Her work from Iraq is included in the book,

"Unembedded: Four Independent Photojournalists on the War in Iraq."

That work is widely exhibited in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. and continues to circulate internationally.

Since 2005, Alford has been documenting the devastating impact of the oil and gas industries on coastal erosion and remote communities of coastal Louisiana in "Home on the Water." Partially commissioned by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the photography and video installation will be open at the museum in July 2012 as part of their "Picturing the South" series.

Alford also teaches and lectures. She teaches annually at the Foundry Photo Workshop. Kael holds an MA from the University of Missouri and was a 2009 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. She is represented by Panos Pictures in London.
