OCTOBER 3, 2010
C'mon
in! Put your feet up and sit for a spell! As you can see, we've had a
little make-over in the newsletter department. Don Bryant has done a
wonderful job of keeping everyone informed in the recent newsletters.
However, he's now happily passed along the honor to me, as his many
other duties at APG keep him plenty busy. So, as your new newsletter
editor, I present to you (drum roll) a "new look," as well as some new
features now, and some more down the road.
So, first up, take a
look at the header at the top of the newsletter. This header will change
with each new issue. Not only is it a nice little design element, but
it's also a game. Oooh, a game! Games are fun. The header is a cropped
segment of a photo in a current show with APG. See, now there's even
more reason to go to the openings! So if you want to play, head on over
to facebook to
play a little game of "Name that Photographer." Will there be a
prize? Hmm, no. But it'll be fun! Now, before you panic and think that I
might crop one of your photos for an upcoming newsletter, know that I
will ask for permission from the chosen "Headliner," before doing so. If
you don't like the idea of one of your photos being cropped, it's
perfectly okay to politely decline. However, I will say that each
Headliner will have their full photo published in the next newsletter,
along with a link to their website. Ahh, sounds sweeter now, doesn't it?
So!
Other new features. In the coming months, we'll have a new "Artist
Spotlight," which will highlight some of our APG members for the
recognition they're receiving for their work. This will be a
semi-sometimes feature on APG's blog, which is sure to be informative
and entertaining. What? You didn't know that APG had a blog? Yes, my
friends, we have a blog. Check it out! But just so you won't miss it, each Artist Spotlight will be noted in
the newsletter with a handy dandy link and some juicy little tidbits
about the photographer.
Now, you're probably wondering if each
newsletter will have rambling dialogue by me at the intro. No! Whew. I'll
admit that wordiness is a bit of a problem for me, so each successive
intro will be short and sweet and all about what's happening at the
gallery and beyond. But in the meantime, to keep you even more up to
date on the events at APG, you can also follow us on Twitter. See,
there's no shortage of ways to be informed, involved and inspired at
APG!
Happy trails..... Tresha Glenister

THE APG GALLERY HAS A MAKEOVER TOO
In addition to the current exhibit, Annette Cone-Skelton Selects, the gallery has a new skin of paint. Thanks to the leadership of APG's Executive Director Polly Barr, and the volunteerism of a small group of dedicated APG members, the gallery was repainted in less than 8 hours the last Saturday of August.
The APG Board wishes to recognize the contributions of the following members who accomplished this task: Edwin Robinson, Marthenya Truitt, John O'Brien, Richard Ediger, Daniel Barr, and Reis Birdwhistle. And thanks to Don Bryant for selecting the perfect paint color, 'Ibis White.'
