 Gala 2011Splashes of Hope

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER
Sandy Romano's Weekly "Splash"

hand painting

Thanks to an initial grant from the Thomas & Jeanne Elmezzi Foundation and the ongoing support of the Laurence W. Levine Foundation, Splashes of Hope volunteer artist Sandy Romano provides hand-painting for the patients and their siblings at the Stony Brook Pediatric Oncology clinic each week. The artwork provides therapeutic distraction while receiving intravenous medication or while waiting to be seen by a doctor.  Each week, Sandy paints whatever a child might wish for, and brings a smile to each little face.

Naples Equestrian ChallengeSandy Naples
Sponsored by Advisory Board Member and 2009 Man of the Year Robert J. Bigler, murals have been installed at this wonderful facility in Naples, Florida, with the help of volunteers Catherine Brown, Sandy Romano, Diana Fogarty and Sarah Baecher.

A special thanks to Catherine Brown, who not only helped Splash the facility, but also coordinated the project and housed our volunteers. Thank you!!

Hispanic Counseling Center
This past month, volunteers Liz Macchio and Sandy Romano headed to Hempstead, where the Hispanic Counseling Center was splashed with multiple murals. The staff was thrilled with the results; we are so lucky to have these incredible volunteers!

Our artists headed into the city this month to Splash the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center's Elevator Bank, featuring murals of Riverside Park, The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Long Beach Medical Center Mental Health Clinic

This month, the Long Beach Medical Center was lucky enough to have multiple murals sponsored by the Laurence W. Levine Foundation. The murals, encapturing our enthusiasm for the Spring Season, have been installed in the facility's Mental Health Clinic, to the delight of staff and patients alike.

"The hallways of our facility now assist us in brightening the lives of those that struggle with depression when they come in for therapy sessions. Many of our clients have made such positive comments regarding the artwork already! Your organization is wonderful and your artists are rich in talent. What a wonderful gift you offer to those that are less fortunate and find it a struggle to find cheerfulness in each day."

City Hospital - Leon, Nicaragua
Our list of International Splashes continues to grow, thanks to our Panamanian volunteer artist Jairo Rodriguez and his sponsor, Ralph Potente. With Ralph's generosity, and Jairo's skill and dedication, a Splash Project has been performed at the City Hospital of Leon in Nicaragua.
Splash Clubs!
Our Splash Clubs in the local schools have been hard at work this season! With their help, gift bags at the Annual Gala & Art Auction were custom-designed by the students of the Brentwood School District. Meanwhile, our friends at Cold Spring Harbor High School have designed layouts for our upcoming project at the Carilion Memorial Roanoke Hospital! Thanks for all of your dedication, Splash Clubs!

Marcie Mazzola Foundation
A special thank you goes out to our friends at the Marcie Mazzola Foundation. This weekend, their 5th Annual Marcie Mazzola Memorial Run/Walk raised funds for Splashes of Hope, as well as the Huntington YMCA. Thanks to the event's committee, and all of the runners who attended!
With love and gratitude on behalf of the patients and families we serve,
The Splash Team
