92 POINTS, STEVEN TANZER'S IWC:

"Deep ruby. A pungent but reticent nose displays cherry, blackcurrant and notes of cracked pepper and licorice. Then sappy and expansive in the mouth, offering powerful dark fruit flavors complicated by smoky Indian spices. This is far from your average 2008 in style. Boasts impressive texture and concentration and finishes with very good thrust and clarity." - Mar/Apr 2011

Robert Parker on Domaine de la Mordoree's Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Cuvee da la Reine des Bois' 2008:

"One of the top wines of the vintage is the 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois. Made from a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah and the rest equal parts Counoise and Vacarrese, the wine is aged in two-thirds stainless steel tanks and one-third in small barrels. This strong effort is already delicious, which gives it somewhat of an advantage over other great vintages which often need 5-8 years of cellaring. A dark plum/ruby color is followed by an attractive nose of raspberries, licorice, black currants and kirsch. Evolved, complex and silky smooth, this full-bodied, impressive 2008 should be drunk during its first decade of life.

Domaine de la Mordoree has done such a great job over the last 15 years that winemaker and owner Christophe Delorme and the Mordoree name are essentially synonymous with high quality, whether it's Cotes du Rhone red, Cotes du Rhone white, rose wines, or their flagship offerings from Lirac and Chateauneuf du Pape. Even in challenging vintages, Mordoree is usually among the finest wines of the year, a tribute to their meticulous viticulture and winemaking."

vineyard THE STORY:

Domaine de la Mordoree's goal is simple - to create the greatest wine possible.  Their combination of top vineyards, quality vines and grapes and their environmental commitment, they have done just that.
160 awards from the Paris Agricultural Fair since 1985 and extroadinary press ratings (high 90's going back to 1999) have made Mordoree's wines very difficult to get and yet, when Christophe Delorme (the owner of Domaine de la Mordoree) speaks, he doesn't speak about awards or ratings.  He speaks about what it really means to be a 'wine grower'.

"Being a wine grower means knowing one's vineyard by heart: knowing every individual vine, feeling the stress of a drought like in 2003 or the rains of 2002, as if we were the plant itself.

Being a wine grower is having both feet deeply rooted in one's land, in its very soil, feeling what the vine feels, and adapting the winemaking process to the different fruits.

Being a wine grower is not applying scientific methods blindly : the heart of wine growing is man, with his instinct, passion, intuition, and improvisation.  This is perhaps the main difference between wines that are technically perfect and wines that have a soul."

 - Christophe Delorme

Christophe and his daughterIt was in 1986 that Christophe Delorme dedicated himself entirely to his passion for wine.  He wanted to produce the best wines in each appelation in which he had vineyards - Tavel, Lirac and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  Mordoree is now 60 hectares of vineyards on 38 different plots of land in 8 districts, but Christophe maintains his love and respect for the environment around him - even the name 'Mordoree' comes from the small woodcock bird that is native to the region.
