Introduction to "Conversations in Tap Dance, with choreographers of the Tap Renaissance."

The artists who built the first companies of tap dance that created choreography for the concert stage and how they made their dances.

By Brenda Bufalino

In 1975 I had the privilege of producing and directing "Great Feats of Feet," the first documentary ever done on tap dance, featuring Honi Coles and The Copasetics. This documentary had a lot to do with bringing these dancers out of retirement and bringing rhythm tap dance to a new audience that thought this art form had died out altogether. And so a new era began for tap dance on the concert stage. There were a few of us who were fortunate enough to perform with and present these artists in concerts with our companies. And I was especially fortunate to be included in their presentations. As time past my mentor and partner Honi Coles died, followed by the rest of the members of this illustrious club.

Ring In The Rhythm- A Jazz & Tap Holiday

WHEN: December 16 & 17: 7:30pm & 1December 18: 2:00pm
WHERE: The Dance Hall, Kittery, ME

Drika Overton and The Dance Hall present RING IN THE RHYTHM A JAZZ & TAP HOLIDAY with tap master BRENDA BUFALINO and mister tap JOSH HILBERMAN and The high energy young professionals from New Hampshire Ayan Imai-Hall and Demi Remick also featuring the world class PAUL ARSLANIAN TRIO: Paul Arslanian, pianist and composer George Kaye, bass Charlie Tokarz, reeds and flutes.

Drika Overton's dream has been to fill the Dance Hall with the joy and spirit of dance. Overton believes in the power of music and dance to ring in the joyful spirit of the holidays, with tap dance and jazz artists who have been staples of the Seacoast performing scene since 1990. Bufalino and Hilberman's unique voices blend the ages with their own choreographies and stories, inviting two powerful next generation dancers, Ayan Imai-Hall and Demi Remick, to share their vitality and unique vision. Comedy, rhythm, heartfelt holiday longings, and the brilliant original melodic and harmonic arrangements of the Paul Arslanian Trio--including selections from the Jazz Nutcracker-- make for three unforgettable shows!
